This data was shared as prediction for 2025 by BusinessDay newspaper.

This was to serve as a guide for people who wants to venture into agribusiness in 2026.

So,

Let’s put it “Five Agribusiness Ideas For Investors In 2026.

✅Livestock Farming

A projection by the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS) placed the current value at at least N30 trillion.

And forecast that it could grow to N50 trillion within a decade if conditions improve.

You can see that it is a sub-sector in agriculture worth considering.

You can start with,

✍🏻Poultry
✍🏻Fish production
✍🏻Pig production
✍🏻Cow production
✍🏻Goat production
✍🏻Snail production

The demand for meat in Nigeria is increasing daily as our population increase. And as a beginner, it is good you come in with good technology.

Watch what others are doing and improve on it.

✅Palm Oil Export

This is the most confusing for me. Because we are import palm oil recently in large volume.

Yes, we are net importers of palm oil in Nigeria.

Let me show you some data.

According to “World Integrated Trade Solution” Nigeria imported US$59.4 million worth of crude palm oil (HS 151110) in 2023.

Also in 2023, Nigeria imported US $124.3 million worth of refined palm oil & liquid fractions (HS 151190) according to “World Integrated Trade Solution”

I also found out that, by first quarter of 2024, Nigeria import cruel palm oil valued at N7.42billion.

Annually, Nigeria is said to import palm oil worth over US$600million.

The most confusing thing is, we also export. Of course, usually in small quantities mainly for consumption.

So, you can start a palm tree plantation instead of focusing on exporting this product.

Nigeria was net exporter. But we have lost that position sadly.

✅Ginger Farming

This is a hot export product currently in Nigeria. Our country is leading the world in this currently in terms of quality.

I was in Kaduna State recently and saw the volume of ginger produce there.

A ton of dried ginger is around N12million - N16million currently.

You can start your ginger farm today. Or you focus on buying from rural farmers for export.

✅Food Processing

Value addition is where the money is. We have alot of farm produce wasting in our rural areas that you can pick up, process and earn big money from it.

Example,
✍🏻Rice processing
✍🏻Yam flour processing
✍🏻Cassava processing (garri, flour, ethanol, starch, etc)
✍🏻Plantain flour processing
✍🏻Soybeans oil processing
✍🏻Groundnut oil processing
✍🏻Beans flour processing
✍🏻Powder pepper processing
✍🏻Palm oil processing
✍🏻Cocoa powder processing
✍🏻Maize flour processing

And many others. The list is endless.

✅Hydroponic Farming

We are lacking in this area in Africa. We depend on rain fell agriculture.

So, we have a lot of tomatoes and other fresh vegetables wasting during season due to excessive production by rural farmers.

Once dry season starts, all farmers go on indefinite strike. And demand for fresh vegetables increase without supply.

Hydroponic farming reduces this. You can grow vegetables with less water in your garden.

Our people are adopting this technology slowly. You as a beginner vegetable farmer should consider it.

You can try a pilot face this year to see how it will work.

In conclusion, opportunities are infinite in agriculture.

The market is also growing rapidly.

Pick one niche and grow your business there.

There are levels to Trading Agro Commodities.

1: They buy from rural farmers

2: They resell to bulk buyers in the market

3: We come and aggregate everything they have and supply to either processors or final consumers.

4: They’re guys in the market who help us to gather from those sellers

Money exchange hands here in large volume. Different players earn a living along the chain.

They are drivers waiting to transport our goods. Thats where they earn a living to feed their families.

They are loaders waiting for us to load, they earn a living here.

They are some funny guys on the road to tax our drivers😁 they earn a living here too.

The chain is extremely large and long.

Agriculture is beyond tilling the soil and rearing of livestock as you were taught in primary school.

Pick up a niche and milk it dry.

Don’t not be jobless.

When Nigeria spends over USD 4.7 billion annually importing food, the chance for agro-entrepreneurs is clear: grow home production, process value locally, and create jobs — you are shaping food security and economic independence.

12/10/2025

The value of African agribusiness is projected to reach USD 1 trillion by 2030 — every smart investment, every innovation, every agro-start-up now is a step into that future.

Africa holds 60% of the world’s unused arable land and relies on smallholder farmers for about 70% of its food supply — harnessing this potential turns challenges into the greatest opportunity of our generation.

12/10/2025

With agriculture accounting for about 24% of Nigeria’s GDP and employing almost half the working population, agro-entrepreneurs are not just farming — you are building the backbone of national prosperity.

12/10/2025

When agriculture and agribusiness together make up nearly 45% of Sub-Saharan Africa’s GDP, there is no small role—every seed sown, every farm improved, every market reached contributes to nations rising.
