Sometimes I find myself questioning why many of us who were raised within the four walls of the church end up discarding all the years of prayers, discipline, and sacrifices our parents invested in us once we step into the outside world.
I can still remember how we were often woken up with the sound of a bell, gathering in the living room to pray, sing, and study the Word together. I remember seeing my mum rise in the middle of the night, calling each of her children by name in prayer.
That’s why it h¥rts to see someone from a solid Christian background step out into the world and live as though they were never grounded in faith. And please, don’t bring excuses like “the church caused it” or “my parents are the reason.” No. Whether you like it or not, they did their part based on the understanding they had. They laid a foundation for you to build on.
Instead of building higher, many step out and l%se themselves, trying to fit in with people who are actually searching for truth. You begin to dress like them, talk like them, and act like them, just to feel accepted.
But here’s the truth, those same people you’re trying to imitate are secretly longing for what you’ve thrown away, salvation. God forbid that when they eventually find it, and they will, you become the one they are praying for to come back to God. Yes, you may eventually return, but the question is, what would you have gone through before then?
“Prodigal son and daughter, come back home.” Don’t trade your honor for temporary things. Christ is your honor. The Christian values you were raised with are your honor. Your modesty, your purity, your commitment to righteousness, these are treasures.
Those things you’ve had since childhood are what others are searching for, yet you’ve exchanged them for a world that is fading away with everything in it.
Pause. Reflect. Think deeply.
