Hey Smiley Fam! It’s been a little quiet around here, and I thought it’s only right to say Welcome Back officially.

I’ve been away, trying to strike a balance between working a 9-5 and running this passion project… and honestly? I’m still figuring it out. But one step at a time, right? Growth is the goal.

During the break, I poured my heart into refining our banana bread recipe and redesigning our label so get ready for banana bread that tastes better than ever, with a fresh look to match.

At Smiley Cuisine, banana bread isn’t just a product. It is comfort, joy, and quality in every bite.

Did You Know The History of Banana Bread?

Banana bread became popular in the 1900s during the Great Depression in the United States largely out of necessity.

With food scarcity and a focus on minimizing waste, households were looking for ways to use overripe bananas instead of throwing them away then resourceful home cooks found creative ways to use overripe bananas. They began adding them to their bread recipes, resulting in a moist and flavorful loaf that quickly gained popularity.

This era also saw a rise in baking powder and baking soda availability, which made it easier to create quick breads without yeast. As a result, banana bread became an ideal recipe.

Also, In 2020, the BBC reported that banana bread was the number one most-searched-for recipe on the internet. CNN called banana bread the "unofficial snack of the coronavirus pandemic."

Anyway, Banana bread has come to stay for good 😁

Our Secret Ingredient? Quality.

Everything used in preparing our Banana bread screams quality.

From the healthy ripe banana to the quantity of milk and eggs (my heart bleeds each time considering their prices but we can do less), to our signature cinnamon spice, rich vanilla flavour and other orishishi attached to the type of Banana bread chosen.

"Welcome to Smiley Cuisine!"

I have always loved baking. Baking can be therapeutic for me.

My first time of baking was in JSS 2 after a Home Economics practical. My first cake tasted like biscuits 😂 but I didn't give up though. My love for food pulled me to Food and Nutrition in my Senior class. After secondary school, there was a two days free baking class being organized in my neighborhood. Baking? Of course I joined the class. I perfected on cake so icing was the next hurdle.

But then I got admission into the university and I abandoned baking.

My major issue was I had the knowledge but didn't know how to make money from it.

Fast forward to 2021, after service I started Smiley Cuisine as an online pastry shop. It is still an online shop therefore there is no physical location at the moment however we do delivery and we have pick up location.

Currently, the brand can not fund herself 😁 as such I work also, which means that I may not be available to take instant orders. Please place your orders at least 24 hours before delivery.

At the moment, we specialise in making Different Variants of Banana breads (I will keep updating this as I unfold more plans for the brand).

My biggest selling point? Quality ingredients (which gives quality products) and unending love for improvement.

Also, I love excellence and if it's not good enough to my taste, it will take a lot of external convincing to make me bring it out so you should know that every product that comes out from my Kitchen (Cuisine) will be worth every penny you spend.

It will worth your taste buds too of course!

Last week when I baked bananna breads, I gave some to a younger friend and she was all over me with Oh my God, it's so soft and fluffy.

I get that a lot 😁.

You can't go wrong with the right amount of liquids to flour ratio and as long as you do not overmix the batter.
