Orerokpe, Delta State
18th October, 2026

It was a day of joy, celebration and political reawakening in Okpe Local Government Area as the Vice Chairman of Okpe Local Government Council, Hon. Pst (Mrs) Mary Otikiri, rolled out massive empowerment and community development projects that have set a new benchmark for grassroots leadership.

The landmark program was held at the Chairman's Quarters in Orerokpe, the administrative headquarters of Okpe Local Government Area, and attracted dignitaries from across the LGA.

In a bold move that has endeared her to the people, the Vice Chairman empowered no fewer than 270 persons with cash grants and wrappers for women, aimed at boosting small businesses, supporting farmers, market women, widows, youths and other vulnerable groups across Okpe Local Government Area.

The empowerment, which cuts across party lines, is seen by political observers as a strategic consolidation of the APC's dominance in Okpe LGA and a clear demonstration that the party remains the beautiful bride of Deltans.

In addition to the cash empowerment, Hon. Pst (Mrs) Otikiri commissioned a newly constructed pipe-borne water project powered by a modern solar system to provide clean, safe and potable water for residents who have long suffered water scarcity in Ughwoton.

She also donated 150 high-quality plastic chairs to Jeddo, Ugbokodo and Ughwoton communities to support community meetings, town hall engagements, women gatherings and youth programmes.

The event at the Chairman's Quarters witnessed a mammoth crowd of women, youths, elders, community leaders, APC faithfuls, ward chairmen and stakeholders who applauded the Vice Chairman's large heart and commitment to service.

Political analysts present described the projects unveiled at the Orerokpe Chairman's Quarters as more than humanitarian gestures, but as strategic political investments that have further brightened the chances of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the Chairman's Quarters, Orerokpe during the event, Hon. Pst (Mrs) Mary Otikiri said her intervention was born out of compassion for the people and a burning desire to complement the people-oriented administration of the Executive Chairman of Okpe Local Government Council.

She noted that the gesture was in line with the ward-to-ward empowerment vision introduced by the workaholic Chairman of Okpe LGA, National Organizing Secretary of ALGON Nigeria and Chairman of ALGON Delta State, Hon. Chief Isaiah Onoriode Esiovwa KSM, JP.

According to her, the 270 beneficiaries were carefully selected from across the 10 wards of Okpe Local Government Area to ensure fairness, equity, justice and inclusiveness, with special priority given to those at the grassroots who truly feel the pulse of governance.

Hon. Pst (Mrs) Otikiri declared that Okpe LGA has never had it so good, stressing that the synergy between the Council Chairman and his Vice has created a stable and progressive Council that is now the envy of other LGAs in Delta State.

She expressed deep gratitude to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his Renewed Hope Agenda which is transforming Nigeria and inspiring leaders at all levels to prioritize citizens' welfare.

She also specially thanked the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his MORE Agenda and for providing an enabling environment for Local Government Councils to perform optimally and bring governance closer to the people.

The Vice Chairman further heaped praises on her principal, Hon. Chief Isaiah Onoriode Esiovwa KSM, JP, describing him as a visionary, dynamic and committed leader who has not only given Vice Chairmen a sense of belonging but has created room for everyone to showcase their capacity.

Hon. Pst (Mrs) Otikiri also appreciated leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at ward, local government, state and national levels for their unity, guidance, fatherly support and for keeping the party strong and formidable in Okpe LGA.

In an interview at the venue, one of the residents in Ughwoton, Mrs. Joy Obire, expressed overwhelming happiness over the solar-powered water project, stating that their years of suffering for good water has finally ended.

Mrs. Obire said, "We have suffered for long to get clean water, but today, Hon. Pst (Mrs) Mary Otikiri has wiped away our tears. This water will help our children, our homes and our health. God bless her, God bless Esiovwa, Oborevwori and President Tinubu."

In a separate interview, the Community Head of Ughwoton commended Hon. Pst (Mrs) Otikiri for her kind gesture and humanitarian spirit, describing her as a mother with a heart of gold and a true daughter of Okpe Kingdom.

The Community Head declared unequivocally that Ughwoton community is solidly behind the APC and assured that they will mobilise massively from house to house and ensure 100% victory for all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections, adding that with the kind of purposeful leadership being provided by Hon. Chief Esiovwa and his Vice, Okpe will continue to be a one-party LGA where APC wins all elections.

Speaking on behalf of the Council Chairman, Hon. (Pst.) Mrs. Otikiri said the initiative was in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the MORE Agenda of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. She disclosed that no fewer than 1,000 persons will benefit from the first phase of the ward-to-ward cash empowerment across the five wards, with 200 beneficiaries carefully selected from each ward without political discrimination.

According to her, each beneficiary in Aghalokpe Wards 9 and 10, Orerokpe Wards 1 and 2, and Oha State Ward 5 received cash grants of N50,000 each to support their petty trades, farming activities and other small-scale businesses.
