On 17 July, the Quantum network in the Netherlands passed 655,000 containers in a single day.

70 machines. 5,262 return visits. €103,628 paid back to consumers in deposits, in 24 hours.

That works out to roughly 9,300 cans and bottles per machine, on one ordinary Friday in July. And it was not a one-off. Four separate days that month cleared 600,000.

Numbers like these say something about the Dutch deposit return system that is easy to miss: it works because returning containers has become normal. Not a special trip, not an effort, just something people do on the way somewhere else.

Every one of those 655,005 containers is material staying in circulation instead of going to landfill or ending up on a roadside. And a bit of money going back to the person who brought it in.

What we find most exciting is that the line keeps climbing week after week. More machines, busier machines, more people building it into their routine. We are looking forward to the day this network handles a million containers in 24 hours.

That last part matters more than it sounds. A rejected container is usually where a customer gives up and comes looking for someone. Here they just try again.

39,102 containers. One machine. One day.

Even on a normal day, the Quantum at Boxss in Oss handles over 20,000 containers, already a serious volume. On 3 July it nearly doubled that.

39,102 cans and bottles accepted, and €6,214.90 in deposits paid straight back to the people who brought them in.

That came from 163 visits. An average of 240 containers per person, in one go.

This is exactly the volume the Quantum Bulk is designed for. Continuous bulk intake, no sorting by hand, no queue building behind someone with three bin bags of cans. A day like that is a busy day for the machine, not a limit.

Last week, the EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation went into effect.

One of its most significant pieces: deposit return schemes, now reshaping how retailers across Europe handle packaging.

The target is ambitious. 90% of beverage containers collected by 2029.

"I like using this bulk feed machine because it is quick, easy, and convenient, and you can just drive up if you are busy and you have no time to actually go physically into the shop, you can come here and throw it in all at once. After you're done, you can redeem the voucher in the shop."

We're starting a series where the product team, not the spec sheet, does the talking.

🎙️ This is the first post in a new series: Q&A with the product team. We're asking the people who actually work on our machines the questions that usually don't make it past a spec sheet.

First up: Joao, product manager for our bulk-feed lineup. We asked him about Quantum.

Most people picture returning bottles one at a time. Joao put it simply: "Imagine emptying a jar of coins by inserting them one by one into a slot machine, sticky hands." 🪙 Quantum is the coin-counter version. Pour the whole bag onto an open tray, and it does the rest.

What makes that possible isn't just the open infeed. Ask him what most people miss, and he'll point to two things: "Other retail-facing bulk-feed machines internally singulate everything back into one line and process it serially. Quantum recognizes and handles multiple containers at the same time." ⚡ Pair that with a storage system that keeps every bin filling close to capacity, and you get the highest storage per square meter we offer in a 21.6m² footprint.

But the real shift isn't technical. It's who shows up.

"The smaller machines capture the return of existing shoppers who return a small number of containers on a visit they were making anyway," Joao says. "Quantum changes who shows up. It pulls in high-volume returners, families, small businesses, people who make a dedicated trip to return their empties."

📊 Envipco Q2 2026 | Growth returns as the 2027 pipeline strengthens

Envipco returned to year-on-year growth in Q2 2026, with revenue
reaching EUR 26.1m, up 13%.

The quarter was driven by stronger RVM activity:
• RVM sales: EUR 16.6m, +20% y/y
• Europe: EUR 17.1m, +18% y/y
• North America: EUR 9.0m, +5% y/y
• Program services: EUR 9.5m, +4% y/y

At the same time, profitability continues to reflect the investments
being made ahead of future market growth. Gross margin was 32.2% and EBITDA EUR -1.7m as Envipco expanded service capacity, engineering resources and operational readiness.

The strongest forward signal is the commercial pipeline.

In the UK, Envipco now has four retailer wins representing approximately 5,400 Compact, Flex and Optima RVMs, with deliveries expected to begin in H1 2027.

Portugal, the Netherlands and Romania continue to develop positively, while Poland and Greece remain important growth opportunities.

The priority now is clear: convert the growing pipeline into
sustainable growth and profitability, with increased focus on
ex*****on, efficiency, capital allocation and cash conversion.
