**ADCA registered Dexter cow/calf pairs up for discussion**
Michelle and I have had to make the very difficult decision to reduce the herd by about 10%. We'll be offering 5 or 6 cow/calf pairs. Some of those cows have heifers on side, some have bulls (could be steers, your choice). These are not cattle we consider culls and we would not typically sell them. Unfortunately, the drought has forced our hand to make some cuts.
We'll also be selling a horse, quite a few steers, and maybe a heifer. Each of these make room to keep another cow/calf pair, which is vital for our future.
One thing I always tell folks...You can likely find cheaper Dexters. Remember, nobody sells their best breeding stock. We are no different. The difference is, if you buy from us, you'll know exactly why each cow was selected in the reduction. For those of you new to Dexter Cattle, part of what you're also buying is a resource. We love to help people get started farming! And we talk to those who have purchased from us quite often. We can provide references, if needed.

It is a heart breaking decision to let some of these girls go. We've worked hard to build the herd that we have. However, we must face the difficult situation we have found ourselves in and do what is best for the long-term success of our cattle. One of my favorite quotes "You cannot starve the profit out of a cow." We'd a whole lot rather drop our numbers back, rather than not meet the nutritional needs of a fat and happy cow. And you better believe that we will come back stronger and bigger!
