Meet Joan of Arc.

This is where we’ll be spending Saturday 12 September for FLIGHT + BITE.

joanofarc_amsterdam is an independent shop in Amsterdam’s Jordaan, bringing together fashion, art and community — from vintage and independent designers to exhibitions, workshops, wine tastings and other gatherings.

We love the idea of bringing Japanese wine into a space like this. A place to discover something new, have a glass, listen to some music, meet people and browse the shop.

For FLIGHT + BITE, we’ll be pouring 4 Japanese wines selected by GUBI GUBI, alongside bites by Japanese Catering in Amsterdam | Amsterdam Bishoku Club and music by Mr Miyagi & Zaki.

A special visit from COCO FARM & WINERY to Hotel Okura Amsterdam

Shibata-san, winemaker at COCO FARM, and Arai-san, responsible for sales and exports, joined Hotel Okura Amsterdam’s team of wine and sake experts, including sommelier Yathin, for a special tasting.

With the bottles we tasted together lined up in front of us, it was a wonderful opportunity to hear the stories behind each wine, exchange perspectives, and deepen the connection between the people who make Japanese wine and those who introduce it to guests here in Amsterdam.

Thank you to everyone at Hotel Okura Amsterdam for the warm welcome—and to COCO FARM & WINERY for making this special visit possible.

NEW ARRIVAL: HANAMUSUBI WHITE 2025

Already a favourite among our restaurant partners, we’ve reserved a small quantity of this new release for our online store.

Made by Takashi Ito of Domaine Ito in Okazaki, Aichi, HANAMUSUBI WHITE 2025 brings together Kyoho, Jasmine, Gorby and Shinano Smile — Japanese table grapes rarely, if ever, encountered in European wine.

Medium amber in colour, it opens with a subtle flinty note before revealing quince, blossoms, kabosu, apricot and a gentle salinity. The palate brings loquat, mineral tension and a delicate Japanese citrus bitterness, with a subtle ginjō-like character reminiscent of sake.

Dry, distinctive and unmistakably Japanese. Only 845 bottles were produced, with just 7 ppm of sulphites added at bottling.

The flower knot on the label symbolises the connections between people — and expresses Takashi Ito’s wish for his wines to create new encounters.

Available in very limited quantities. Find it under New Arrival Wines via the link in bio.

One of Japan’s finest Pinot Noirs.

COCO TOARU Pinot Noir 2022 by COCO FARM & WINERY was produced in extremely limited quantities and is sought after by importers around the world.

For us, importing a wine like this is about more than selling bottles. It helps open doors, build trust and show Europe just how far Japanese wine has come.

A rare wine, now in the hands of the places and people we believe in.

Photographed at Hotel Okura Amsterdam, where the wine is now served at Yamazato and Sazanka.

Two bottles that have quickly become favourites among our restaurant partners.

Haitaka 2022 by Sakai Winery — a delicate, savoury Cabernet Sauvignon from Yamagata, with bright red fruit, gentle tannins and an umami-driven depth.

GRASSHOPPER 2024 by Nagomi Vineyards — a layered orange wine from Nagano, combining citrus, white peach, herbs and black tea with a subtle grip.

Distinctive, food-friendly and produced in very limited quantities — two Japanese wines to look out for on restaurant tables across Europe.

This spring, we were delighted to be contacted by Hotel Okura Amsterdam and had the opportunity to visit the hotel together with the team from COCO FARM & WINERY.

During the visit, we introduced a selection of COCO FARM wines to the teams at Yamazato and Teppanyaki Restaurant Sazanka, tasting together and sharing the stories behind the wines and Japanese winemaking.

We are very happy to share that four wines have now been selected for Yamazato and Sazanka:

COCO FARM & WINERY
- Pinot Noir 2022 – COCO TOARU Series
- Kumo no Jikan 2022 – COCOROMI Series
- Ashicoco 2024
- Noumin Dry 2024

Yamazato Restaurant is Hotel Okura Amsterdam’s Michelin-starred restaurant, which has been introducing the tradition of Japanese kaiseki cuisine to Amsterdam for more than 50 years. Teppanyaki Restaurant Sazanka offers another expression of Japanese dining culture, with teppanyaki dishes prepared by chefs right in front of the guests.

We are especially happy to see another place in Amsterdam where wines made in Japan can be enjoyed alongside Japanese cuisine.

Our sincere thanks to the teams at ココ・ファーム・ワイナリー and Hotel Okura Amsterdam Amsterdam for making this possible.

If you are visiting Yamazato or Sazanka, we hope you will have the chance to discover these Japanese wines alongside their cuisine.

It’s been a while, Rotterdam.

On Sunday, September 6, GUBI GUBI will be joining the KASANE Design Fair at Groot Handelsgebouw, right next to Rotterdam Central Station.

KASANE is a curated design fair bringing together creators and makers in the Netherlands who are inspired by Japanese aesthetics and sensibilities.

The name “KASANE” means “to layer” in Japanese, reflecting the idea of bringing together sensibilities and traditions cultivated in Japan with new people, places, cultures, and values here in the Netherlands, creating new layers that can take root and grow.

The fair will bring together creators across design, craft, fashion, jewelry, art, food & drinks, and more.

GUBI GUBI will be there with Japanese wine. We’ll be pouring a selection of Japanese wines by the glass, with bottles also available to take home.

It’s been a while since we’ve had the chance to pour Japanese wine at an event in Rotterdam, so we’re looking forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting some new ones too.

Come by, have a glass, and say hi.
