A curated selection of the best and worst gluten free airplane meals I've ever had at 40,000 feet
First thing, -I cannot stress this enough.. your results on these meals might vary!
Airline catering is an insanely complicated operation and the meal you get depends mostly on the caterer your airline uses where the plane gets catered. You can fly the same airline on a different route and have a wildly different meal experience
Also, most of my travel is booked on points (manufactured spending is basically a part time job for me at this point) which is how I end up in premium cabins so much. On flights I book less than 48 hours before departure I expect to not get a gluten free meal
This isn’t even all the meals I have in my archive.. do you guys want a part two?
Singapore Airlines | Singapore to Bali | Business class in 2022. This chicken and rice was actually pretty solid!
JetBlue | Boston to London | Mint in 2023. Mint catering has been good to me, the only thing is on the transatlantic routes they don't let you pre-order a special meal and have to ask for the gluten free options onboard. The crew were great about it on this flight
JetBlue | London Gatwick to Boston | Economy in 2023. Similar story where pre-ordering wasn't possible and I had to annoy the crew until they let me order the gluten free options onboard before they ran out. The menu clearly indicated GF food this crew just really didn't care about dietary needs..
British Airways | Boston to London | Premium economy in 2025. One of the better airline breakfasts I've ever had (Turkish Airlines has my favorite). This was on the 8am to 8pm day flight, my favorite way to cross the Atlantic
British Airways | London Heathrow to Malta | Club Europe in 2021. Before 2022 gluten free meals in Club were actually decent. This shepherds pie was the staple for about a year and it was good enough I'd want it on the ground. I wish it would come back..
British Airways | London City to Barcelona | Club Europe in 2026. This was what I could have for breakfast after I didn't get a catered meal. Rating this one star for the 25,000 Avios they gave me for complaining
British Airways | London
