Amsterdam-based Irish barista, European Matcha Latte Art Champion, Caitlin Mcardle () has always been a big supporter of ROA. But we’ve never actually asked her why... or at least we’ve never filmed her answer.

Well, now we have. So don’t take our word for it, here’s why Caitlin prefers ROA in her cup.

Last year, we raised money for De Regenboog Groep, a non-profit offering a space for those struggling with homelessness in Amsterdam. They also offer creative workshops to help people express themselves and become artists.

Working closely with Ale###, who developed his own style in these classes at De Regenboog Groep, we developed an edition of ROA Barista Oat M*lk that would raise funds for the non-profit. We are super proud to share that we have raised €5k through this initiative.

In celebration of that partnership, we asked him to give one of ROA’s founders, Lucas, a little class of his own.

Talks, takeovers, cuppings and one very fresh looking carton.

Thank you to everybody who came by THE DETOUR last week, our unauthorised coffee festival fringe event in Amsterdam, hosted in collaboration with Cata Export. It was without the best moment of our year yet.

And of course, a huge shout out to all the roasters, speakers and sponsors who supported the event with their delicious coffees, industry insights and incredible food and drink.

We’re warming up for THE DETOUR, highlighting some of the amazing roasters, baristas and coffee professionals on this year’s line-up. So without further ado: FUKU.

FUKU is a cafe by Friedhats, one of Amsterdam’s most beloved specialty roasters. Located just South of Westerpark, in Bos En Lommer, FUKU is as modest in its appearance as it is spectacular in its coffee offering.

On Friday 17th, THE DETOUR will be blown away by two full hours of FUKU mania starting at 10:00. A bar takeover that’ll showcase the beautiful coffees Friedhats has to offer.

We’ve just launched something very special...

How do you improve workflow while saving at least 40% of waste? To answer that question, we had to think outside of the box, so we put a bag in a box, and filled it with 5 litres of delicious ROA Barista oat m*lk.

We get by with a little help from our friends, so check out how our friends at use this new technology (a technology akin to space travel or AI (though much less wasteful)). Always at the forefront of Amsterdam’s specialty coffee scene, we couldn’t be happier that they were one of the early adopters of the Bag-in-Box.

THE DETOUR IS HERE.

Last week, we announced our fringe coffee sessions event, held during Amsterdam Coffee Festival on 17th April. Today, we’re announcing the line-up.

Serving talks, takeovers and cuppings from an all-star line-up: Colin Harmon, Jhonatan Gasca, Cata Export, Wakuli, Uncommon, FUKU, Sprout, Coffee Company, Wide Awake, Kaf, Sudseite, Rush Rush and ROA...

Need to wind down from the twenty-six espressos and five filter coffees you just had? There will be beers supplied by Q***r beer, as well as cocktails, kombucha, and vinyls spinning into the night.

All this and more, from 10am - 8pm.
Free entry. No ticket required.

‘You’re not a bum. You’re a human being that does not have a house.’

Meet Sonja and Kathleen, two incredible women who, in their own way, are proving the value of solidarity and community in Amsterdam.

In 2025, ROA partnered with De Regenboog Groep, an Amsterdam-based organisation offering support and, among other things, art workshops to those navigating issues like homelessness in our home city.

Working with Ale###, an artist from these very workshops, we raised €5k for their community. For people, like Sonja.

We wanted to find out more about her story, and how she first encountered De Regenboog Groep and Kathleen who helps guide the cause. So we made them a coffee. The rest was up to them.
