America’s first whiskey distilling company, Michter’s rich history dates back to 1753 when a farmer in Pennsylvania’s Blue Mountain Valley distilled his first batch of whiskey from hardy rye. At one point a Master Distiller left his family’s well-known distillery to join Michter’s so he could be at a smaller, less cost-conscious company where he could make the finest whiskey, cost be damned. We co

ntinue this grand distilling tradition in Kentucky by never releasing our whiskeys until both our Master Distiller Pamela Heilmann and our panel of whiskey tasters deem them ready. In fact, our whiskey is often much older than the age statement on the label. At Michter’s we produce single barrel ryes, very small batch unblended American whiskey, very small batch bourbon, and single barrel bourbon.

We’re excited to announce that Michter’s Master Distiller Dan McKee and Michter’s Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson have approved the 2026 release of Michter’s 10 Year Kentucky Straight Rye.

Rye whiskey has been a focus for Michter’s for over a quarter of a century. According to Michter’s Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson, the whiskey’s cooperage and aging are crucial to ensuring the quality and character of Michter’s 10 Year Rye. Wilson explained, “A critical component of aging Michter’s 10 Year Rye is creating a barrel that is going to accentuate the beauty and elegance of a Kentucky style rye after aging for over 10 years. This whiskey possesses a balance of complexity and refinement driven through baking spice, citrus, and floral characteristics, all of which are bolstered by the sweetness and maturity of the oak.”

“We make a Kentucky style rye that has more corn and malted barley in its mashbill than many other ryes. The result is a well balanced rye whiskey that has a rich sweetness and a flavor complexity that complement its spice notes,” said Michter’s Master Distiller Dan McKee.

Releasing this June, it has a 92.8 proof (46.4% alcohol by volume) spirit, Michter’s 10 Year Rye is a single barrel whiskey, and it has a suggested retail price of $210 in the U.S.

Summer officially starts this weekend. Make sure the “Watermelon Heatwave” is in your glass when it does.

Watermelon Heatwave
1.5oz Michter’s US*1 Sour Mash
1.5oz fresh watermelon juice5oz fresh lime juice5oz simple syrup*25oz Mexican green chili liqueur
Add all ingredients to a shaker and shake until well chilled. Strain into a double rocks glass over ice. Garnish with a watermelon slice.
