Dear friends,
As you know, Chadailha closed when we moved to Taiwan, and we do not expect to reopen in the near future.
We care deeply about the environment, leaving this earth with a small footprint, reducing waste, and reusing or recycling wherever possible. Sustainability has always been at the heart of Chadailha.
Unfortunately, the new EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) makes it extremely difficult for (small) businesses like ours to continue, or in our case, to reopen.
You can read the regulation here: https://commission.europa.eu/news-and-media/news/new-packaging-rules-less-waste-and-easier-recycling-2026-08-12_en
The reality:
- Costs apply per EU country per year, even if we ship just one package.
- Registration: €100–€500 + eco‑contributions: €100–€400 per country per year.
- For 5 countries (Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain): €1,500–€3,500 annually.
- For all 27 EU countries: €6,000–€15,000 annually.
- There is no single EU portal, each country requires separate registration, reporting, and payments, with different rules and costs.
And if we were to reopen from Taiwan, the costs would be even greater: EU law requires a fiscal representative in every country we ship to. These representatives must actually live in the country, and their salary or service fees add hundreds to thousands of euros per country per year on top of the registration and eco‑contribution costs.
These rules apply equally to large corporations, small family businesses, and micro businesses. Without exemptions or reduced rates, it makes no difference if you send one package or one million, the obligations are the same. This makes it nearly impossible for small businesses to compete with the enterprises of this world.
Chadailha will remain closed, until fair adjustments are made. We believe small businesses deserve a chance to thrive, while still protecting the environment responsibly.
New rules on packaging and packaging waste aim to protect the environment and people’s health and create new opportunities for businesses.
