📦️ The EcoCoolBox we use for insulated shipping is a unique, completely paper-based and environmentally friendly insulated packaging with an equal or even better insulation performance than EPS (tempex/styrofoam) based solutions. The liners of the boxes are made of fine paper fibres. These fibres have outstanding insulation characteristics, comply to European directives for contact with food products, are 100% recyclable, and are made of clean recycled cardboard.

Less than 1 hour away from Monte Grande, the archaeological site where the oldest evidence of cacao usage can be found, you can still find farms with old native cacao trees. In 2022 the Peruvian cacao association (APPCACA) started an ambitious project: the first origin denomination certificate for cacao in Peru.

APPCACA selected farms for this project based on three criteria: they must have old native cacao trees, follow sustainable growing practices, and use post-harvest methods that produce the specific flavor profile defined in the Origin Denomination certificate. The cacao in this chocolate comes from that very first certified batch.

Peru isn't just a cacao origin. It's one of the most genetically diverse cacao landscapes on the planet – and we're only just beginning to understand it all.

Forget Forastero, Trinitario and Criollo for a moment. In Peru, we're talking about Chuncho, Gran Blanco de Piura, Nanay, Contamana, Scavina, and over a dozen other distinct genetic varieties – each with its own flavour identity, its own growing region, and its own centuries-long story.

Two of our makers are doing extraordinary work with these native Peruvian genetics:

🍫 Qantu (Montréal) – a Montréal-based maker with Peruvian roots, working exclusively with native varieties and naming every bar by region and variety. Their Chuncho and Gran Blanco bars are benchmark expressions of what Peru can do.

🍫 Vigdis Rosenkilde (Norway) – a meticulous, research-driven approach to origin chocolate. Her Chuncho from Quellouno is one of the most layered, nuanced and exceptional bars we stock.
