Thanks again to Ry Beville @ Sake Today

Last month we wrapped up Sake Today 46, perhaps our most eclectic issue yet. We feature Fermenteria in Sendai, an intriguing new sake brewpub model launched by Euka Isawa (on our cover). Our travel special spotlights quiet Fukui on Japan’s west coast, if you’re looking for pastoral pleasures and ancient religious sites. Our main brewery article for Japan details Tentaka Shuzƍ, Japan’s leader of organic sake. We also showcase Rannei Sake in Norway, which is producing unusual sake with local ingredients. Regular contributor Ayuko Yamaguchi tells a personal story of loss transformed into professional fulfillment. It was destined to happen: we finally take a lengthy look at flavored sake, whether infused, blended, or otherwise. We fill out the magazine with mini-features on Echizen ceramics, dashi-wari (sake soup anyone?), IWA Sake’s turning-point moment with its newest blend, a recipe, and an essay on every brewer’s friend in Japan: the taxman (no, really, he is a friend). We’re excited to begin introducing some of the first restaurants now serving Rannei sake.

We start with Kreatur at Hobo Hotel in Oslo, where Rannei is featured as part of their Japanese-themed concept over the coming months.

Kreatur is known for bold flavors and strong concepts — and we’re proud to see Rannei included in their program.

If you’re in Oslo, stop by and experience it for yourself.

More to come.
