Skjolden Llamas

Skjolden Llamas is a part of the farm business owned and managed by Simon & Monika Page and is located at Gulbrandsgarden, in the village of Skjolden, Norway.

The farm has a flock of Old Norwagian (Viking) sheep and Llamas. We purchased our first two llamas in the summer of 2005 and were so impressed with these gentle and intelligent animals that we bought a further nine the following year, in addition to the first foal being born on the farm.

TOURS & ACTIVITIES FROM 19. AUGUST.
The llamas cannot just eat and sleep all of the time, they need some exercise as well....
For the rest of the season, we are taking bookings for 90 minute llama river walks and 45 minute farm visits on most days, but please note that these are subject to advance bookings only, except on a few of the remaining cruise dates.
If you are visiting Skjolden with the LIBERTY OF THE SEAS tomorrow, 20th August, the llama farm visit at 12:30 is now fully booked, but there are still places available on both the llama walking excursions being sold by RCCL, please check with them as to availability.

THE LLAMA FACTORY.
Three foals in three days. Bluebell had a girl Sunday, followed by Pernille with another girl lunchtime today and Sonja had a boy this afternoon. Now we have to find names for them.

TICTAC THE SHEEP.
She is rather special, just stands and waits for some attention. Really enjoys contact and relaxing with us.
One of the advantages of farming on a small scale is having time to tame as many of the animals as possible time and used to contact with us.

NEW LLAMA.
Meet the latest arrival, Saga who was born Friday afternoon. She was not expected quitevso soon and that is why her leg joints have not strengthened fully yet, but she is healthy and developing well. Juva is the proud first-time mum. We are now waiting for theee more births between now and mid-August.
We took a walk with Mango and Google up to the Sengaberget viewpoint yesterday, a pleasant short hike that is highly recommended if you visit Skjolden.
We are running farm visits and llama walks every day, so make a booking and cone and meet Saga and the rest of the team!

Farm visit 17:00 Llama river walk 18:00

28th July.
Farm visits 12:00 & 18:00. Llama river walk 10:00

29th July.
Farm visit 12:00. Llama river walk 13:00

30th July.
Farm visits 12:00 & 18:00. Llama river walk 10:00.

31st July- 2nd August.
Farm visits 10:00 & 17:00. Llama river walk 18:00.

The farm visit is 45 minutes and offers plenty of time in the paddock handling the llamas as well as meeting the sheep, price is NOK 125/person. The llama river walk includes an additional walk by the river with the llamas and is 90 minutes, priced at NOK 300/person. Children up to 6 years old are free.
Our latest addition to the herd, Saga, was born on 24th July and we are expecting three more cria (llama foals) to be born anytime now.

BONUS LAMB!
Not so often that we get a lamb born in July, but Kari must have gotten bored of being a pensioner and decided to arrange everything herself and come out of retirement.
Kari was our first 'bottle-lamb', she was a triplet, very small and unable to compete for milk with her two larger siblings, so we fed her ourselves. Born in 2013 and having brought home good lambs from the upland grazing each year until 2023, we decided to retire her- seems like she has other plans!
Luckily, just one big, healthy ewe lamb, more than enough for a 13 year old sheep...

RELAXING.
Summer weather in Skjolden and not so many llama tours - plenty of availability so contact us if you would like to meet the llamas.
The llamas really know how to relax and enjoy a day off!
We have had some very pleasant, if rather busy days with the cruise groups, thank you to everyone who has been here on the excursions and farm visits.
We will be organising walks and visits every day for the main season, so get in contact and enjoy some quality time with the llamas.
We are fully booked for the next cruise day, 14th July, Sky Princess and wevare looking forward to welcoming the ship back here to Skjolden.

TRAINING TOUR & WINTER FEED.
A busy week with a couple of days spent cutting grass, Star Legend here for a visit some of the passengers out with us for a walk with the llamas, then yesterday, our good friends from Elvheim were here to help with a training tour for the female llamas. Pippa the foal is now three months old and we are hoping that we will soon be able to take her on the tours, walking her last in the group, together with her mother, Layla.

JONSOK (MIDSUMMER).
The Jonsok (Midsummer celebrations) here in Skjolden were hosted by Skjolden Cruisekai, Bryggehuset and Adventure Tours this year, three established and rapidly developing businesses here. A very enjoyable and social evening with the opportunity to enjoy free ice cream, hot-dogs, RIB tours, rowing the viking ship on the fjord as well as seeing and hearing first-hand what is happening and the results of the current large-scale investment in infrastructure and ammenities. Good to see that so many locals as well as others were there and having a good time. Excellant live music provided by Mellom Oss and the chance to finish the evening off woth a drink by the fjord at the Bryggehus and watch the Jonsoksbål (Midsummersbonfire) being lit.
For anyone visiting Skjolden, either on a cruise or independantly, there really is a lot on offer here, in addition to the fantastic nature and scenary of the area. The summer season is here, come visit us at the end of the fjord.

STABBURET OG SAU (STOREHOUSE & SHEEP).
Variation in work last week, with three days spent building a new roof to protect the old storehouse on the farm. A big thank you to Trygve and the group who were here on this voluntary project. All Five of them are about 80 years old and still doing this sort of activity. We still have a lot we want to do with the 'stabburet' but at least the roof will protect it for now.
The some of the rest of the week was spent sorting, vaccinating and moving sheep. Over half the flock is now moved to the upland summer grazing and the next group will be taken up next weekend.
