It's been a week of drainage here on the farm. The stream that crosses the arable had been laid in pipes in 1978 to drain what was then, a marsh. As tha marsh has dried out, the drain had subsided, leaving the drain permanently nearly entirely full of water. Subsequently, every time it rained, the pipe was over capacity, forcing the water out of the joins and washing away the soil above, leaving sinkholes in the arable! To fix the drain, we've excavated down to a firm base, and have created a foundation of crushed rock on top of fibercloth. The pipe and the foundation will be entirely wrapped into the fibercloth, creating a solid base. Many thanks to Ottar Skjold maskin and Vidar Viland for super work!

And two more photos of herding in the sheep. Here's Luke hard at work taking a flock down from the high plateau. To say the pasture is steep in parts would be an understatement!

It's been two weeks of collecting sheep down from the mountain pastures before winter. The results weren't the best this year due to the abnormally dry summer, with many sheep out on tour outside of their normal pastures. It'll be another month of regular trips to the mountains to bring in the last stragglers! Many thanks to all that have helped and provided great company. And it all wouldn't have been possible without the work from the dogs!
