A message from Karuna ❤️

Karuna and Todd Douglas have been hand-making the beauiful tekoteko vessel for Ti-toki for the last 20 years. They are the owners of this iconic brand.

If you'd like to know more about the people behind Ti-toki Liqueur, please head to our site: https://ti-toki.com/pages/our-people

Mahi aroha - it is a labour of love.

"20 years ago when Todd and I used to be makers of the iconic Ti-Toki Liqueur ceramic crocks, the owner called and told us he was selling the company 😲 ... to cut a long story short, we ended up becoming the kaitiaki/owners. 🫣

We've always been obsessed by the ceramic crocks but felt that over its 47-year history, the liqueur itself had lost its way, it wasn't of the same level of excellence ... well, that was until earlier this year when we partnered with Master Distiller Blair Nicholl and the team from The National Distillery Company.

After months of harvesting, distilling, blending, trialing and tastings we've done it. 🥰

And to celebrate our relaunch, we've gone right back to the beginning and created a hand numbered limited-edition crock that honours the original Orzel crocks from the 1970/80's. 🙏🏾

E hoa mā! A new chapter is about to begin for Tī-Toki Liqueur.

Soon, we release a special edition collectible - a limited run, and made to be treasured.

This edition marks the return of the legend.

Born of Mānuka Honey, Kawakawa, Orange and Tītoki, it carries the wairua (spirit) of this land in every drop.

Presales coming soon.

Mā te wairua e ārahi tonu / May the spirit continue to guide.

We stand in the light of Tāne, beneath the canopy where the air is thick with Mānuka and rain.

It is here that the story of Tī-Toki begins - born from the whenua (land), guided by wairua (spirit) and carried by the hands of those who craft with care.

Every element of Tī-Toki is of Aotearoa - the clay that shapes the crock, the honey gathered from hives, the botanicals drawn from the ngahere (forest) and the water that flows beneath her mountains.

This liqueur is more than a drink. It is a tribute - to the land, to the people and to the mauri (life force) that connects them both.

Ko te wairua o Aotearoa tēnei / This is the spirit of Aotearoa.

Birdsong provided by the Department of Conservation, with aroha 🖤

Open the bottle and the forest awakens!

The scent of Mānuka Honey rises first, warm and floral, followed by the brightness of orange, the gentle heat of kawakawa and the grounding depth of tītoki.

On the palate, these notes move together - a balance of sweetness, warmth and earth.

The finish is long, smooth and full, a true reflection of Aotearoa’s native botanicals in harmony.

Koinei te wairua o te ngahere / this is the spirit of the forest. Shaped by the land and crafted with care.

How we make Ti-Toki:

We begin where most spirits do not, with whey, a by-product of New Zealand dairy.
Through fermentation and distillation, what was once waste becomes something pure and full of life.

Circular by design, lighter in footprint, it forms the foundation upon which our native botanicals can truly shine.

The water comes from beneath the volcanic plateau - ancient, pristine and with its own add unique minerality.

The honey is gathered from Mānuka hives deep in the ngahere (forest).

And the clay, shaped and fired by hand, becomes the vessel that holds it all.

Each step is guided by intention - to honour the land, to craft with patience and to protect its mauri (life force).

The Return of a Legend.

In the year 1979, a new kind of spirit was born in Aotearoa. It was called Tī-Toki, New Zealand’s first native liqueur.

The bottle was shaped like a tekoteko, a carved guardian, holding safe the stories of this land.

For a time, it travelled far; found on shelves, shared in homes, remembered by many.

Then the forest grew quiet.

Now, after many years, that spirit returns. Familiar, yet renewed. Refined with care, crafted once more by those who honour its wairua (spirit) - and its story.

Mā te wairua e ārahi tonu / May the spirit continue to guide.
