Great news gardeners, There are LOTS more seed potatoes in the shop! 🥔

We’ve got a whole bunch of different varieties (Agria, Russet, French Fingerling, Jersey Benne) from the wonderful Gillian Swinton, author of The Good Life. So if you’re planning your spring veggie garden, come and have a dig through!

If you’ve got something you’d like to sell through our the farm shop, whether it’s a one off drop, or something you’d like to supply regularly over summer - we’d love to hear from you! We’re particularly looking for fresh fruit and vegetables, and we have a fridge available for produce that needs to stay chilled! 🍒🥕🥬

Just picked up your strawberry plants or collecting tomorrow? A few frequently asked questions and quick tips!

Frost: The plant itself is frost hardy, the flowers are the vulnerable part. If a flower is frosted, the centre can turn black and that flower won’t develop into a strawberry. If a late Central Otago frost is forecast and you have lots of flowers, covering them overnight with frost cloth can help protect those early fruiting flowers.

Planting:
•Keep the crown (where the leaves meet the roots) at soil level, don’t bury it.
•Plant somewhere sunny.
•Keep them well watered while they establish.
•Make sure they have good drainage.

Albion are an ever bearing/day-neutral variety, so they’ll keep flowering and producing fruit throughout the season rather than all at once.

Table manners are clearly optional around here, especially when the feed is this good!

Our laying Emu and Chickens enjoying the Old Mill Free Range Layer Mix, while the Sheep and Daisy the Goat are loving the Multi Nuts.

When you pick up your chook orders, we suggest grabbing a bag of the same feed to help them settle into their new home without changing their diet straight away. At the farm we use and highly recommend Old Mill, Southland grown grains and in compostable bags!

Their full range is available in our roadside shop. Eftpos, cash or bank transfer 🌾

There’s something pretty special about growing your own food, and we’re looking forward to hearing about and seeing all your backyard strawberry patches come to life!

And a huge, heartfelt thank you for the absolutely overwhelming response. There were a few very busy days of happy dances as you all blew up my phone with your orders ❤️ Not long now until we’re all enjoying our favourite summer fruit! 🍓

Strawberry Plants now available!

We’re selling commercial quality Albion plug plants for your backyard! Unlike small cell grown plants or runners, these have a well developed root system, meaning less transplant shock, faster establishment, stronger growth, and earlier fruit.

Our strawberry patch is planted with these, straight into paddock soil with irrigation, no compost, no fertiliser, no fancy tricks, and you all saw how well they produced! 🍓

We trust you’ll still visit us for the animals and a real fruit ice cream, even when your own patch is overflowing with berries!
