Because pretty is only the beginning.

The real magic is when the candles are blown out, everyone has a slice, and someone asks:

“Where did you get this cake?”

This little mermaid birthday cake was made for a very special little girl, and the sweetest message came afterwards:

“Everyone loved it and asked where it was from.” ❤️

That is exactly why I do what I do.

Beautiful enough to make an entrance.
Delicious enough to be remembered.🥰

I couldn’t bring the cake home. So I recreated it. 💜

This cake was gifted to me by one of my best friends when I was in the Philippines.

She knew I baked.
She knew I had pretty high standards for cake 😂
So she chose one she knew wouldn’t disappoint.

And she was right.

It was one of the most delicious ube cakes I’ve ever had.

Soft. Sweet. Delicate.
The kind of cake where you take another bite before you’ve even finished the first.

I came home, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

So for my mum’s 72nd birthday, I decided to recreate it.

No halaya.
Just soft ube cake, sweet creamy frosting and those beautiful purple crumbs.

And after a few little tweaks…

I think I finally got the feeling I remembered. 💜

Now I’m wondering…

What if dessert could bring us back to each other?

One of the things I’ve realised over the years is that my favourite part about dessert has never just been the dessert.

It’s what happens around it.

The conversations that last longer than expected.

The unexpected comfort of discovering you’re not the only one.

The stories.

The laughter.

The honest moments.

The light-hearted ones.

The feeling of simply being at ease.

The feeling of not needing to be anywhere else.

So I’ve been quietly dreaming about something…

A community for people with a sweet tooth and a sweet soul.

Every 6 to 8 weeks.

Weather permitting.

Sometimes a sunrise with warm coffee, cinnamon buns and almond croissants.

Sometimes a picnic under the trees.

Sometimes dessert by the beach as the sun goes down.

Sometimes somewhere cosy with a pot of tea.

Everyone brings something sweet they love to share.

Homemade or store-bought.

Simple or elaborate.

It doesn’t matter.

If you’re the kind of person who proudly orders dessert…

…gets excited to try what someone else has brought…

…and believes the best conversations can’t be rushed…

I think you’ll feel at home.

The hope is simple.

A place where you don’t have to perform.

You don’t have to impress anyone.

You don’t have to have the perfect story.

You don’t have to be anyone other than yourself.

Just come as you are.

Bring something sweet.

Pull up a chair.

Let’s remember what it feels like to simply be together.

Maybe the sweetest things we share won’t be the desserts after all.

So you can gather the people you love around dessert, knowing it’s been made in a kitchen that has passed Auckland Council’s food safety verification.

Today was verification day, and I’m grateful to share that Attwood’s Kitchen passed again.😄

It also came with a $1,131 council bill.

I’d much rather spend that on butter and chocolate. 😅 But it’s an investment I’ll happily make so you can order with confidence, knowing your desserts are prepared in a kitchen that meets Auckland Council’s food safety standards.
