With a few new faces here, I thought I’d introduce myself.
I’m Catherine.
The baker behind Attwood’s Kitchen.
Truthfully, I’ve never felt particularly comfortable talking about myself.
I’d much rather talk about dessert, or philosophical thoughts.💭
But if you’re here, I suppose it’s only fair that you know who’s baking for you.
I’m a mum.
I’m someone who thinks deeply about life.
Probably too deeply sometimes.
I love meaningful conversations, quiet moments, family dinners, and the feeling of being fully present with the people I care about.
The older I get, the less interested I am in impressing people and the more interested I am in connecting with people.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how easy it is to tie our worth to what we achieve, how productive we are, or how impressive we seem to others.
Not because those things are bad.
But because life feels lighter when I stop trying so hard to define myself by them.
When I stop focusing so much on who I should be and allow myself to simply be.
I don’t have it figured out.
It’s just something I’ve been noticing lately.
And it’s quietly changed the way I move through the world.
This little business grew from a similar place.
Not from a grand plan.
Not from a dream of building an empire.
But from a love of making something with my hands and sharing it with other people.
I don’t think dessert changes lives.
But I do think it has a way of bringing people together.
I think some conversations happen more easily around a table.
I think sharing something delicious is one of the simplest ways we show care.
And I think life is uncertain enough that we don’t always need a special occasion to enjoy dessert.
If you ever bring one of my desserts to a gathering, I hope you’re not remembered for the dessert.
I hope you’re remembered for how people felt.
Welcomed.
Thought of.
Cared for.
Because the people I admire most all seem to have something in common.
They create warmth wherever they go.
They make room at the table.
They check in on people.
They bring the good dessert.
They understand that food is never really just food.
It’s comfort.
It’s generosity.
It’s connection.
So while I may be the one baking, you’re the one creating the experience people remember.
You’re the one bringing people together.
You’re the one making an ordinary day feel a little more special.
I simply get to help.
Whether you’ve ordered before or you’re simply following along, thank you for being here.
I’m glad you found your way here.
Catherine Clark.❤️
