Who doesn't love a beach day? This one was with rubbish bags rather than beach bags.

The Andrew Peller team recently swapped the office for a day at Spanish Banks and Locarno Beach in Vancouver, spending the day clearing litter from the shoreline in support of Surfrider Foundation.

As the team helping take Babich into the Canadian summer, it’s pretty great to see them looking after their own patch of coastline while they’re at it.

Babich has supported Surfrider Foundation and the work they do to protect our oceans, waves and beaches for a number of years. Because looking after the places we enjoy is something worth getting behind.

Good people, doing good things. We’re proud to have them in our corner.

Our Winemakers’ Reserve Sauvignon Blanc began with a simple question: what else could Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc do?

The answer involved perfectly ripe fruit from some of our favourite vineyard blocks, wild fermentation, barrel fermentation, and a fairly light touch in the winery.

Which may sound slightly ironic for something called Winemakers’ Reserve.

Maybe that’s the point. Sometimes the best winemaking is knowing when to stay reserved.

James Suckling awarded our 2024 vintage 91 points, which is a nice bit of encouragement for staying out of the wine’s way.

After a few cameos here and there, it’s about time Rosie had a post of her own.

Rosie is a Huntaway x Labrador, and Marlborough Area Viticulturist David Bullivant’s loyal vineyard companion.

Those who’ve met her will know she takes vineyard life seriously. Very seriously. There are puddles to assess, grape rows to patrol, streams to inspect, and humans to keep moving in roughly the right direction.

Come harvest, Rosie is never far from the action. She’s been known to offer her thoughts on grape flavours and perfect pick timing and show the Marlborough harvest team how to sneak in a mid-shift nap. Though her honorary viticulture degree is still pending.

Part companion, part morale officer, part grape-whisperer.

Around here, Rosie is 100% indispensable.

Named after Iva Babich, mother of our founder Josip Babich, IVA carries a piece of family history and reflects more than 15 years of organic winemaking at Babich.

Senior Winemaker Adam Hazeldine describes IVA as a more serious take on Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

This is Irongate Vineyard, in the heart of Gimblett Gravels, Hawke’s Bay.

Long before vines, this land was an ancient riverbed. Later, its stony ground was dug up to build roads. Part of the wider area even had a stint as a drag strip.

Irongate Vineyard takes its name from the aquifer beneath the Gimblett Gravels, another reminder of the river that helped shape this land long before we arrived.

Today, those ancient stones help bring concentration, structure and character to wines like our Babich Irongate Chardonnay and Babich Irongate Cabernet Merlot Franc.

Not bad for a former riverbed.

This is Mara Babich Vineyard.

Perched above the Awatere River, this special corner of Marlborough is named after Mara Babich, wife of founder Josip Babich and grandmother to David and André Babich.

The vineyard had another name before it joined the family. But when the opportunity came to rename it, it felt like a fitting way to honour Mara and keep her name close to the land and business she was part of.

Her name has appeared on Babich wines over the years and still does in the United Kingdom today. Here in Marlborough, it lives on among the vines too.

Adam is our Senior Winemaker at Babich Wines. Most days you'll find him overseeing everything from harvest and blending decisions to bottling schedules across our winery. But if you happen to wander past at lunchtime, there's a fair chance you'll hear Adam’s banjo before you see Adam.

Adam's journey into wine started as a cellar hand back in 1996, with a few detours through biochemistry, microbiology, and even making sterile bovine serum (different tale for another day) before finding his way back to our winery.

These days, he loves the balance of science and creativity that comes with winemaking. Outside of work, he's into cooking, tramping, and perfecting his banjo skills, much to the delight of anyone within earshot.

90 points and a Best Buy from Wine Enthusiast for our Babich Black Label Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2025.

People tend to think of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc as bright, fresh and made for the first sip.

Fair enough. It often is.

With Black Label, our winemaking team takes that starting point and gives it a little more time at the table.

Not in a white-tablecloth, elbows-off sort of way. More in the fresh seafood, roast chicken, pass-the-salad, lunch-might-become-dinner sort of way.

Still Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Just with a little more depth in the conversation.
