I was hot. And I wanted to drink a drink. Not just any drink, a healthy drink. A nice cold Kiwifruit drink. Sounds easy right? Or so you might think since here in New Zealand we invented Kiwifruit! The truth is though that there was not one single decent Kiwi drink on the market. There was one that was basically poison with added sugar and preservatives - forget it! There was another one that used
apple juice mixed with the Kiwi, but that just tasted like apple juice. Fail. So I decided then and there to create the worlds' best Kiwi Juice. How hard can that be right? Oh and I would also make my own bottle since the rest of them looked boring and basically seemed to be a label stuck on a standard bottle full of standard juice... yawn. So THREE YEARS later I am just about to do my first bottling run…. Yes THREE YEARS of testing different fruit mixtures in order to get it just right. It wasn't as easy as I thought, in fact it was damn hard - but it was worth it. Realizing I needed some way smarter (and more sober) people to help me get the worlds healthiest (and best tasting, just because something is "healthy" doesn’t mean it cant' taste great as well) Kiwi drink, I enlisted the support of my friend Grant who is the best in the business at recipes. Soon we had the bestest tasting Kiwiblend on the planet… as well as the healthiest. No preservatives, no added sugar, no anything apart from fruit and natural additives. WICKED! Next was the label. I got my friend Andrew to make them and I'm sure you love them just as much as we do. This process took a long time as well, but it's like raising a child... you need patience. So, label tick, recipe tick.. now for the bottle. OMG so when I showed the bottle people my cool new idea the bottle people shook their heads and "went nah mate cant be done, your crazy, just use the same bottle everybody else uses." Well I didn't want to use the same bottle as everybody else. My Kiwi Blend is not like everybody else's. It's better, so I want my own cool bottle. Stoopid bottle people .. anyway THREE YEARS later I have my own kick ass bottle, kick ass label and the best Kiwiblend on the planet . It nearly killed me and probably would have had it not been for some very good friends that have supported me and given me advice. Chris went through similar things to me when he was starting out. Mixing the Aioli sauce for his chips on his kitchen stove to take to the store… now he has like 35 stores and is taking on the world and he still finds time to support my crazy dream. So where was I .. bottle, label .. oh yes the label. Now the next thing that rocked me was my dad died during this THREE YEAR period and so I thought lets name my drink after him. So I did… this is the coolest thing about having your own business, you can decide what you want to do and you don’t have to run it past some boring bastards. Sometimes this is the most dangerous part of it as well... but anyhow, I would rather live by my own mistakes than die by somebody else's. Then the next revelation that came to me once I had named the drink. All of a sudden this Kiwiblend was personal, it literally had my family name on it. S**t - it better be good! For me this is the final piece of awesomenss... it is my drink, I created it, with help from my friends .. and now with my name on it I had to really take responsibility for it and for you - my customers. So go forth try a bottle and I sincerely believe you will love it as much as we do. PS I know everybody says their "whatever" is the best in town so I'm sorry that I did too, but I couldn’t help it.
