To celebrate the international release of the acclaimed 2021 vintage of San Leonardo, the flagship w**e of Trentino "trailblazer" Tenuta San Leonardo, we'll be pouring the fantastic 2022 San Leonardo Terre and 2018 Vette Sauvignon Blanc to taste throughout the day this coming Wednesday, the 23rd of September.
For those who don't know the fantastic w**es of Tenuta San Lorenzo, they are one of the true icons of Trentino-Alto Adige, nestled in the Dolomite mountains north of the Veneto's Valpolicella region in Northern Italy.
Founded in 1724 the estate was inherited by it's current owner Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga who trained under his cousin, Mario Incisa at the legendary Tenuta San Guido (home of Sassicaia) in Bolgheri, Tuscany.
The very first San Leonardo was released in 1982 and has become one of the regions benchmark w**es, a high-altitude blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Cabernet Franc and Merlot which is known for its singular elegance and focus.
The estate describes Carmenère (a grape from Bordeaux that today is more at home in Chile) as "the fingerprint of San Leonardo". Previously thought as Cabernet Franc, Carmenère was introduced to Trentino in the late 1800's and has been preserved and celebrated by the estate who praise it's "strong character that somehow combines elegance with a slight rusticity."
The 2022 Terre is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Merlot and is critically acclaimed in it's own right. If you want to explore the other w**es of this fantastic estate, Ground W**e Bar (downstairs from Cahn's) will be pouring both a flight of three w**es from the estate and / or the stunning 2014 San Leonardo by the glass.
We look forward to taste the 2022 Terre by Tenuta San Lorenzo with you on Wednesday, if you can’t make it you can order these w**es online at cahns.co.nz
