After 13 amazing years, our family has made the emotional decision to put Black Sands Brewing up for sale.
This was a massive call for us to make and took a lot of deliberation. This decision is not due to tough industry conditions and certainly isn’t because the business is struggling, because in fact, the opposite is true. The brewery is in great financial shape and continues to organically grow with each passing year. But for us, the decision ultimately comes down to family.
Dad started brewing beer with his best mates down in the basement almost a decade and a half ago and what was originally called Landing Road Brewing formed the foundation of what would become Black Sands Brewing Company. After turning 71 last year, Dad is now ready for a well-earned retirement and some long-overdue travel together with Mum, and I’ll be heading to Melbourne later this year to chase a new career.
Therefore we feel the best thing we can do is to pass the brewery on to someone new who can take it into its next chapter.
Black Sands has been a huge part of our lives and the West Auckland community, and we’re incredibly proud of what it has become. We’re also very grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way. From our supportive friends and family to the many bars, bottle stores and supermarkets across New Zealand who back our beer.
It’s definitely bittersweet, but we’re excited to see what the future holds for the brewery.
