Saturday at Normanby

There’s plenty happening today at Normanby Fine Wines in both Auckland and Wellington, with new wines on the retail shelves from our recent container arrival.

In-store tasting | 1–3PM

Today we’re pouring Josmeyer Pinot Gris Le Fromenteau and Le Kottabe. A relaxed chance to explore aromatic Alsace wines with freshness, texture and distinctive character.

Zane will be pouring in Auckland, with Phil hosting in Wellington.

Auckland

In-store tasting from 1–3pm, followed by live music from 3–5pm. Stay for a glass of wine and something from our winter menu.

Make an afternoon of it and visit our neighbours at Webb’s Gallery, where Works of Art and the Estate Auction are currently on view.

Wellington

Join Phil for the tasting from 1–3pm, enjoy wine by the glass and our winter menu, and take some time to see the new selling exhibition currently on view.

At both stores, the retail shelves are full of new wines from our latest container arrival — plenty of new bottles to discover and take home.

Drop in, taste something new, stay for a glass, and make an afternoon of it.

Another week, another By the Glass list at Normanby Auckland — and plenty of good reasons to come in for a glass.

We’re starting with Champagne Pierre Bertrand Tradition Brut NV, before moving through a brilliant line-up of whites: Domaine Josmeyer Riesling Le Kottabe 2024, Domaine Gros Frère Chardonnay 2023, and Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux Le Haut-Lieu 2022.

For rosé, Château Léoube Côtes de Provence Rosé 2024.

Then to the reds: Burgundy from Domaine Capitain-Gagnerot, Bordeaux with Marquis de Calon Ségur Saint-Estèphe 2022, and something with a little age — Marchesi di Grésy Virtus Langhe DOC 2012.

Freight is included on all online orders at Normanby throughout August.

And with Domaine Oudin Chablis 2023 now landed, it’s a very good time to make the most of it.

We’re particularly pleased to have four wines from Nathalie Oudin’s 2023 vintage together in stock.

2023 was a warmer year in Chablis, producing wines that can be softer and more fruit-forward. The best producers, however, managed the conditions beautifully, retaining the freshness and precision that define the region.

Nathalie Oudin’s wines from Chichée are a wonderful example. Across the range there’s precise citrus fruit, lovely texture and a distinctive saline, limestone quality.

Quantities are small, and with continued interest in Chablis alongside a very small 2024 harvest, we don’t expect these wines to stay around for long.

Meet Sacha from Normanby Wellington, who recently joined the judging panel at the 2026 NZ Spirits Awards as an Associate Judge.

With the results announced last night, we asked Sacha to share a little about the experience — and two of the award-winning spirits you’ll find at Normanby.

“The New Zealand Spirits Awards are a chance to celebrate the hard work, creativity and ingenuity of producers and the wider spirits industry. I had the opportunity to be an Associate Judge this year, sitting down to taste, discuss and debate alongside some incredibly talented people.

The Awards are ultimately for the customer — a trusted guide to exceptional spirits produced both here in New Zealand and internationally.

One standout had already won us over at Normanby, and went on to be named Best Rum Overall at the 2026 Awards: Flor de Caña 12 Year Old Rum.

Aged in ex-bourbon barrels, it opens with gentle spice and pepper on the nose, leading to a semi-sweet, beautifully balanced palate of molasses, charred oak and vanilla, with a lingering finish of dark chocolate and coffee.

It’s everything you want from an aged rum — interesting enough to sip on its own and smooth enough for a splash of soda.”

And there’s another winner on our shelves. Drumshanbo Gunpowder Fig & Laurel Gin took out Top Gin, and has just arrived at Normanby.

What’s on at Normanby today?

A beautiful Saturday across the country, new arrivals on the shelves, and plenty of reasons to pop into Normanby.

In Wellington, Phil is opening two Bordeaux from 1–3pm: La Croix Barton and Potensac 2012. Two great wines from our Bordeaux collection, which has just been replenished with a whole new container arriving this week.

Those new Bordeaux arrivals are making their way onto the shelves in Auckland today, with Wellington’s allocation following next week.

In Auckland, Zane is keeping with the new-arrival theme and tasting Domaine Gros Frère 2023 Bourgogne Blanc and Rouge from 1–3pm. A first taste of the new vintage and a very good excuse to see what else has landed.

It’s a beautiful day for sitting outside with a glass in Auckland, or finding a sunny spot by the windows in either store.

And in Wellington, Works of Art auction is also on view — wine and art make a pretty good Saturday combination.

An exciting week at Normanby. A new container has arrived, and, as it does every week, there’s a new By the Glass list to explore in Auckland.

This week’s line-up is full of gems.

We’re pouring the delicious Château La Mascaronne Blanc 2024, Love by Léoube Provence Rosé, and G de Guiraud Bordeaux Blanc 2022 — because we should all drink more white Bordeaux.

There’s Domaine Jean Dauvissat Chablis 2023, and something we particularly love being able to offer by the glass: Peregrine Aged Release Pinot Noir 2018. A beautifully aged New Zealand Pinot, ready to drink now.

Zane’s picks from the reds this week are Tenuta Garetto Nizza 2021 and Quinta do Noval Syrah 2020.
And, naturally, Champagne: André Jacquart Mesnil Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru NV.

What’s on today at Normanby?

It’s an exciting day in Mount Eden and for our local community, with the first look at our new train station as part of Auckland’s City Rail Link. If you’re heading into the neighbourhood for a look, there’s plenty happening at Normanby too.

Our Auckland store is open with counter food, our full menu and wines by the glass throughout the day. On the menu, our French onion soup is perfect for a winter Saturday — served with a truffle and cheese toastie. Come in for lunch, a glass of wine, or settle in for the afternoon.

We’re also pouring complimentary Eight Thirty filter coffee, and from 1–3pm Zane will be hosting our Saturday wine tasting. Then from 3–5pm we have live music in store.

And while you’re here, head down the driveway to Webb’s, where both the Jewels auction and Estate auction are currently on view.

In Wellington, Phil will be pouring for our Saturday wine tasting from 1–3pm, with plenty of great wine on the shelves and by the glass.

A great Saturday to visit us in either city — and an especially exciting day to be in Mount Eden.
