NZ Grazing South

NZ Grazing South We offer dairy heifer grazing management for Otago Southland dairy farmers. We monitor individual We do not split our time over other services/products.

WHAT WE DO…

Leah Baldwin at NZ Grazing South offers a personalised service for both heifer growers and dairy farmers throughout Otago Southland. Using grazing contracts based on a cents per kilo of DM eaten and a feed management software programme called MDM. Monitoring individual heifer performance, health and well-being every 30-45 days optimum results are achieved that benefit for both owner

and grower.

WHY CHOOSE NZ GRAZING SOUTH? With our MDM system we operate differently to other grazing companies. To ensure both owner and grower benefit from the final outcome we have monthly check in points and communicate monthly, we set base and optimum targets, have proven systems and metrics in place and processes to ensure a successful outcome.

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT? Here's some of the ways we operate that benefit you and are unique to NZ Grazing South. We provide:

A COMPLETE SERVICE – animal health insurance, death compensation, vet needs, vaccinations, mating, bulls, AI, everything is recorded. A DEDICATED, SPECIALIST SERVICE PROVIDER – This is what we do, and we pride ourselves on doing it well. You are our priority. GUARANTEEED PAYMENT – we pay our growers regardless even if an owner’s payment is not yet received by NZGS. A FAIR PROCESS WITH REDUCED RISK, EVERYONE GAINS - The owner is only paying for the amount of feed consumed/converted to weight gain. The grower is only being paid for the amount of feed consumed/converted to weight gain. No other grazing provider does this as fairly as we do. PAYMENT FOR WEIGHT GAIN – Our MDM system takes the amount of weight the animal has gained and converts this to feed consumed (in kilos of DM) , the grazing fee is then calculated at cents per kilogram.

There are many farming families in our community who are under the same pressure as the Hay family.. It is not only the dairy farmers who are affected by M. bovis.. it is everyone in our southern rural communities.. in one way or another we are all affected ..we wish the Hay family all the best in their future endeavours .. we're sure a better opportunity is on the horizon..

This is the swimming hole where I live...been a god send this year.. How are things looking at your place?

Extremely warm and dry in South Otago, can't remember ever having an Autumn drought but certainly heading that way if we don't get some good rain soon

Southland looks a picture..such a contrast.

Do you have good quality feed going into winter?

How are your heifers looking? It's so important to keep your R2s growing heading into winter, a drop off in growth rates over the next two months can easily cost you all the hard work prior to now.

Don’t believe It’s cow farts and burps that’s polluting our atmosphere?.....where are those nasty carbon emissions really coming from??

So here’s the truth in M. Bovis
17/01/2019

So here’s the truth in M. Bovis

In order to quash rumours (or fear factor for some) here is a reminder of true facts from MBovis Scientists.

MBovis Bacteria transmission pathways are from infected mucus or saliva in DIRECT contact with another cow (not horse, sheep, dog or human); calves drinking milk from infected cows or contaminated milking equipment.

It is NOT spread through vehicles, machinery, footwear, clothing - if in doubt use good biosecurity practices on-farm.

Bacteria is NOT shed in the urinary tract

Bacteria is outcompeted by other bacteria (like E. coli) in faecal material.

There is no international scientific evidence that
MBovis survives in soil.

MBovis does not transmit through air.

It is easily killed if fully exposed to sunlight and dry conditions.

Know where your cows come from, preferably deal with farmers you know and always complete NAIT records as knowing where your cows have been is crucial to preventing the disease spreading.

Lets support farmers suspected of having the disease - it could easily be your herd. Thanks

Merry Christmas to you all from the NZGrazing South team.Looking forward to another great year with our farming clients...
