Back in 1986, Ernie signed an agreement with Clan Hunter in Scotland, giving Hunter’s permission to use the Hunter Clan crest on our branding.

Since then, Hunter’s has proudly carried the dog at the centre of the insignia, alongside the Latin words Cursum Perficio - “the course is complete.”

This July, Clan Hunter gathered at their ancestral home, Hunterston Castle, for a very special occasion: the inauguration of the Depute Macer Venatorus and the Clan Chieftain. It marked the first time in 900 years that Clan Hunter would have both a Clan Chief and Clan Chieftain, and it is thought to be the first clan to have both a female Chief and female Chieftain at the same time.

The ceremonies culminated in a dinner at the Castle, where we were incredibly honoured to provide the wines for the evening: Hunter’s MiruMiru™ Non Vintage, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.

It’s rather special to think that a connection that began back in 1986 with Ernie and Clan Hunter continues today, with Hunter’s wines being enjoyed at Hunterston Castle in Scotland - a lovely link between our two families, on opposite sides of the world.

Dogs have been part of winery life since the very beginning. Some may remember Commodore or Paddy, owned by Jane and Ernie. These days, Billy and Lola bring plenty of personality, companionship and the occasional hunt for a snack to the vineyard.
