We have already shorn the stud ram hoggets which yielded out bes results to date

The 2025 drop ram lambs were classed a couple of weeks ago. The bottom half were culled for structure, dag, wool quality and footrot. (Data is never considered untill the fundamentals are right)

The culls shore 3.9kg of 16.5um wool and killed at 24.5kg

On current wool prices with a 75% yeild that is $87 per head wool value on top of a $293 carcass

$380 total return at 10 months of age with only 2 drenches in their lives.

✨️Pregnancy scanning for the stud ewes is done and dusted.✨️

While its only pub (or instagram) chat at this stage. The only numbers that really matter is weaning % in saying that this is how the girls went.

⚡️170% potential lambs to ewes mated

⚡️6% dry

30% of the mob were maidens. Single sire joined for 30 days with no back up rams and no supplementary feeding/flushing.

Management will need to be on point to ensure good lamb survival with so many multiples.

Yesterday Tom had the privilege to judge the Wimera show in Horsham Victoria Australia. Tom judged the strong and medium wools with Dainel Rodgers doing the super fine and fine wools and the fine mediums were slit between the two of us.

The quality of sheep was out standing which made the judging challenging... just the way it should be. With no arguments between judges the job was a pleasure.

Congratulations to the millers from Glenpaen Merinos for winning Grand Champion Ram and Robert Harding from Glendonald Merino for winning Grand Champion Ewe which went on to win supreme exhibit.
Congratulations also go to Orrie Cowie Merinos for taking out most successful exhibitor.

Starting early to beat the rain!

Its been a big week of recording data in the studs.

Post weaning weights and dag scores taken on the 2025 drop lambs

Pre joining weight and condition score on the stud ewes.

Some highlights were the growth rates on the lambs, with the Ram lambs averaging 280g/day since weaning on the 5th of Jan to average 50kg at 6months old with no drenches since weaning.

Stud ewes (1/3 of which are maidens) averaging 68kg at CS 3.5

Right where we aim to be fast growing healthy lambs and moderate adult ewe cutting 6.5kg of quality 18um wool. An efficient and profitable package.
