🌸 I’m back! 🌸

After a year of finding my feet in a new full-time job as a teacher, I’m finally getting back to my flowers. I’ve definitely missed them!

The past year has also given me the opportunity to let my original 2021 flower plot have a much-needed rest, ready for a fresh new season.

Yesterday I finally started digging up the rest of the dahlia tubers from the 2025 season — tubers I simply didn’t get time to sort last autumn with my work hours.

And honestly… I’m amazed at how well they’ve kept! It’s made me wonder if dahlias really are as sensitive and difficult as we’re sometimes led to believe. 😍

These are the first 8 clumps so far. They’ve been washed off, given a good health check and are now being potted up, ready to go into the new gardens.

It feels SO good to be back amongst the flowers and getting my hands dirty again. 🌱🌸

One thing I love about growing food is making delicious sauces and preserving for those cold months when you long for summer to arrive quickly. This Summer Harvest Sauce uses a range of fruit and veg, it really is a game changer! I use anything that’s over ripe, or I have too much off to be eaten straight from the garden. Simply spread ingredients onto a baking sheet, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, courgettes, pumpkin, onions, garlic anything like that and even chillies if you like it spicy like we do. Drizzle with olive oil and season with pepper and salt. Bake in an oven at about 200c until soft (I usually do 30mins or so on bake not fan). Process in a food prior with a wand and freeze ready for winter use. 💚

WISHING YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY 2026! Well it may have been a bit quiet here in 2025, but due to heading back to University at the age of 50! Mixed in with family needs and juggling life Fantail Ridge has had to be paused. Now back and by no means have I stopped my dahlia breeding program.
