Blueridge Farm Alpacas NZ

Blueridge Farm Alpacas NZ Registered Alpaca Breeders I, like many others, came across Alpacas at the Agricultural Fieldays at Mystery Creek many years ago.

It wasn’t however until 2010 that I had the opportunity to purchase four pregnant females of my own and branch out into breeding. Like anyone with Alpacas will tell you, these gentle, intelligent animals are very addictive and the more experience I have gained with them the more I appreciate their wonderful personalities and their ability to produce amazing fibre. My aim is to continually improve our herd by using top genetics to produce superior quality breeding stock.

We are sad to hear of the death of Rising Sun, a very special herdsire and father of our own Rising Star. His beautiful looks and equally beautiful temperament have been passed on to many lovely alpacas here in New Zealand. He will be sorely missed at Shamarra.

Rising Sun’s sun has set 💔
Our beloved Patagonia Celtic Rising Sun arrived at Shamarra in December 2012, already six years old, and over the next 13 years he became part of the very heart of our farm.
Rising Sun was truly extraordinary. A cornerstone of our breeding programme, he sired 211 registered progeny across New Zealand and Australia, with his influence extending through Europe and the UK. His legacy lives on in countless herds and generations yet to come.
Beyond the show ring and the paddock, Rising Sun was something even rarer, a genuine ambassador for alpacas. As the face of Shamarra Alpaca Farm Tours, he welcomed thousands of visitors with his calm nature and gentle soul, happily posing for cuddles, selfies and unforgettable first alpaca hugs. He was adored by so many, featured in magazines, on television and in memories that will be treasured forever.
He lived his very best life at Shamarra surrounded by care, admiration and love. His absence leaves a space that can never quite be filled.
Run free, Rising Sun.
Your legacy, your genetics and your spirit will shine on ❤️

Wishing all our alpaca friends a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to meeting up again in 2026.
