Why We Farm
We have always had a deep connection with the environment and value the health and vitality that is derived from what we eat. Whilst Canterbury is an amazing region with breadth and depth of locally grown produce like no other, we really struggled to find protein that aligned with our values. So we decided to raise our own animals with love and integrity and share not only this most nourishing food with our community but foster the connection to, and where our food comes from with a level of intimacy.
We believe if you are what you eat, we are actually what we eat eats. So for us to be healthy, happy and full of vitality so too does the food we consume.
Our animals are 100% pasture raised, with no added BS, year round outside as nature intended, grazing on a diverse and healthy forage base. They are all treated with respect and handled in a low-stress manner which is proven to be better for both the animals and the farmer.
Oranga nuku, oranga kai, oranga tāngata. The foundation of our and our foods health, ultimately comes from soil health. We focus on land management practices that regenerate the soils and improve the local water cycle to promote biodiversity of both flora & fauna. We aim to create a system that continually improves, is not subject to the spiral of degradation so commonly seen on agricultural landscapes and leaves the landscape and ecosystem in a much more resilient state then when we found it.
