Our new year's harvest is sown! Shish*tos, Hot Jokers, Scotch Bonnets, Cayenne and Rocoto 🌶 And a few more surprises (if they germinate nicely!) 🤞

Last harvest was rough. We barely had anything we could use, and were feeling pretty discouraged at the end. But we have new land, and new tunnel houses coming, and new chilli babies sown. So here's to a much better harvest coming up! 🔥🌶🔥

Shish*to pepper harvest!

Real talk time though - this year’s harvest is proving challenging. Loss of seedlings, irrigation issues, stunted growth, blossom end rot on what should have been our first harvest…

Add to that the challenge of finding new land and Farmer Bear breaking himself chasing a tractor. The struggle is real! Here’s hoping for a better March! 🤞🌶️❤️

Delve into Bear’s gardening journey, sparked by his grandmother’s teachings—a passion left dormant for two decades, only to be revived by the arrival of Covid. In the midst of lockdown, he embarked on growing and experimenting with chilli peppers, transforming a modest interest into a full-blown obsession.

Join us to hear Bear’s story and glean insights into his experiences and lessons learned while founding MIDGARDEN—an organic chilli pepper company.

Our experimental chilli pepper trail tunnel house.
This little tunnel house has been in it's first year of production this year, and so far has proven itself beyond what was expected. No signed of pests or diseases for our plants.
The wildflower plot running alongside the hoop house has been attracting all the beneficial insects that we could have asked for. All though this summer it has just been humming.
Using the tires as a thermal mass inside the tunnel to keep the temperatures higher inside well into the night. As winter approaches and the temperatures begin to drop, the tunnel house has been staying nice and warm, allowing the peppers to continue production well into the colder months.
Looking towards the future we are running a trail to see what (if any) leaching happens from the rubber of the tires, and it's effects on the soil and plant life therein.
We can't wait to share more of this journey with you.
