All our calves came on that bloody fast this season they’re getting kicked off the milk just as quick.
This line of beefies averaged 75kg 10 days ago, so come Monday they’re done. Anything across the scales the last fortnight is doing 1 to 1.2kg a day, even with that s**t snow over the weekend.
Grass is finally moving and the sun's doing its job for once. Hard to knock.

Bit of snow on the ground this morning! Forecast nailed it, but bloody cold all the same. Calves weathered it sweet and the sun’s finally out. Enjoy the calm before the storm, lads—weaning again tomorrow and you’re next in line.
Still figuring out this Facebook caper, but there’s plenty more where this came from. Follow along if you like seeing good stock and hard yakka.

Cut these Friesian bull calves off their morning milk couple of days ago and they are not thrilled about it. Grumpy looks aside, they’ve come off milk well—good, sappy calves.
Didn’t get the tractor over to top up their mini silo, so had to put a few 20kg bags of moozlee in by hand instead.
Spent the rest of the day weighing, drenching, and sorting a couple more mobs still on milk into tight weight ranges so we aren't dragging every mob across the scales every week for weaning. Its time consuming but worth it.

These new calves love the Moozlee. Heads down and troughs empty in no time.
These whiteface calves are out of Eyrewell Dairy cows and sired by the Bluestone Hereford bull, Lincoln. Shifting along nicely.

First mob of Southern Stations Wagyu calves through the shed.
One of them thought he’d take on the shed pole today… pole won that bout hands down. Calf’s fine, just a bruised ego.
They’re a bloody tidy bunch of calves, settling in well. Be interesting to see how they perform on the scales and what sort of weights we get out of them later on.
Can’t take any credit for them yet—Rach has the whole show well sorted while I just watch on.

Episode 5 or 6? Honestly lost count at this point 😆 to be fair I have missed a chunk out at the training block and skipped straight to the big boy setup.

Every single day this is the routine.
Quick hyperlapse of the daily run:
Firing up the Smart Mixer to get the milk sorted.
Pumping it up onto the mighty Axor, the entire day's milk goes in just one load.
Heading out to the lease block to fill the twin 60-teat McKee trailers.
Letting the bulls rip into it.

Currently feeding just over 1,000 calves out here. Once the first teat is filled, it’s a solid 3 and a half hour job to get through them all with Bruce the huntaway making sure everyone stays in line.
We only pump the exact mob allocation into each feeder so if a tap gets left cracked or you get distracted, there's zero chance of over or under feeding. This saves a massive headache....🤦‍♂️ been there many times.
Give the page a follow if you want to follow along with the season and see how these calves progress.
Looking foward to some sunshine.

Sitting right on 1,000 Friesian bulls at Arbourlea now. Anyone running numbers knows it’s not all smooth sailing—you take your hits and deal with losses like anyone else in this game. But seeing the bulk of them boxing on, toughening up, and filling out the frame makes the hard yards worth it.
Scale only works when the baseline systems hold up:
Nutrition
Routine
Support
Also we are genuinely lucky to have solid landowners to lease this block off. Good people to deal with make operations like this possible.
Head down, routines locked in, and putting the work in to set these bulls up properly for the next stage.

If you havnt got your beef straws sorted for this season I highly recommend you get in touch with World Wide Sires New Zealand and get hold of Bluestone Lincoln hereford. They are a great marker when calving and the straws won't break the bank.
