Great to see the next generation of chefs on Monday.

Our very own Nik was over at Ara Institute of Canterbury judging at the Waitaha Young Chef Championship. Each of the trainee chefs was challenged to cook a piece of our salmon, putting their skills to the test.

Congrats to Olivia Wormald, winner of the Trainee Chef of the Year — our sponsored category — and to Ellouise Day from OGB who took out the overall title and is heading to the NZ Championships with help from the NZChefs Association.

Thanks to Mark and the Ara team for a day of great food and inspiring talent.

Since 1985, we've wanted to do things right, not be the biggest.

That's the path we're still on.

From our purpose-built Wigram facility to our own breeding programme at the Waiau Hatchery, we've continued to invest in quality at every turn.

Now, with support from Te Puni Kōkiri, we're taking the next step across our processing facilities, hatchery, and sea farms.

With 50 new jobs expected over the next three years, we're changing. But our place, our philosophy and our promise aren't.

Raising craft salmon, and doing it in a way that New Zealand can be proud of.

Seven whole Akaroa King salmon. Two exceptional chefs. One very good cause.

Executive Chef Taylor Cullen and guest chef Sid Sahrawat prepared some of the country's finest produce – including our fish – for Front Row at Flockhill Lodge, a day of fashion, cuisine, and research. All in support of Breast Cancer Cure, and raising over $100,000 towards life-saving research.

It's a genuine privilege to provide our salmon for a cause like this, prepared by chefs of this calibre, in a room doing this much good.

Thank you Taylor, Sid, and the Flockhill team for having us on the table.

That's a wrap on Run Akaroa 2026.

For our crew it was a chance to forget the normal routine (whether in our office or out on the water), and instead focus on things that matter. Family. Community. Personal achievement.

That last 6km of descent may have tested your legs, but it didn't dent your spirits. Hats off to our fierce competitors:

🏃‍♀️ Paul & Ali smashed the 10km
🏃 Stewart (CEO), Lars and Ben G took on the half
🏃 Henry, Willie and Ben D went the full distance

A massive thank you to the marshalls in the cold, the Scenic Sports Events crew up before sunrise (especially you Kerry), the volunteers at every drink station, the supporters waving signs at the finish line. You made this.

And to every runner out there, well done! Be proud of your determination. The whole village was buzzing with your energy.

We'll see you all again next year.

With the forecast looking good, the weekend is guaranteed to be something special. 800+ runners and walkers (including a good crew from our very own Akaroa King Salmon team), the Summit Road in full glory, and a proper festival waiting at the finish.

Whether you're running, walking, or just coming along for the race day vibes, get amongst it this Sunday.

Beautiful calm day in the harbour today, so we shot out to the farm with Lou and Ant from The Akaroa Cooking School to watch the harvest. It's all part of getting our fish ready to come in fresh each day.
Lou and Ant have been running their amazing cooking classes right here by the wharf in Akaroa for over 16 years now. Well worth booking in for an autumn getaway from the big smoke !

Salmon and a good cause this Sunday! 🐟

Join us at Moon Under Water craft beer pub, where our very own Nik will be cooking up three special salmon dishes, with every dollar going to the Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust.

Doors open 11am, kitchen runs 'til 8pm (or until we sell out!). Come hungry, leave knowing you've helped protect our beautiful peninsula.
