The following paragraph from Emma's report gives a glimpse into what makes this region so special.
"While the selection can be explored across region and subregion, or used to compare producer philosophy and w**e style, one aspect that is notable in this yearâs selection is the connections and threads between people and producers. The youngest w**ery in the selection, Wild Irishman, established in 2021, is in fact helmed by one of the regionâs pioneers, Alan Brady, who first planted grapes in Gibbston in 1981, began Gibbston Valley W**es in 1983, and released the regionâs first commercial Pinot Noir in 1987. Alan established Mount Edward in 1997, before selling it in 2004. As noted above, he built his third w**ery at age 85, as active as ever in the regionâs growth. Valliâs Grant Taylor started his Central Otago w**emaking with Alan at Gibbston Valley in 1993, staying until 2006 while starting Valli in 1998. Grant has made w**e for numerous Central w**eries, including Mt Difficultyâs earliest vintages. Matt Dicey, head w**emaker for Mt Difficulty until 2021, now makes w**e with his brother James at Dicey, while James also runs the viticulture company Grape Vision, established by his father Robin in 1996, which employs Donald van der Westhuizen, who in turn owns the tiny Bendigo estate, Moko Hills (and who also worked a vintage at Valli and Mount Difficulty)."
