Rescue, Rehabilitation & Rehoming of Goats Across New Zealand
I rescue, rehabilitate and rehome goats who have been neglected, abused, abandoned, hoarded or subjected to inhumane treatment. Many arrive after prolonged animal mistreatment with no appropriate care, no veterinary support and no safe future.
While I support cases all over New Zealand, the hands on, physical rehabilitation takes place in the Auckland region, where goats can receive intensive care, assessment and long term support.
This is not occasional rescue work.This is ongoing animal welfare intervention.
Specialist Goat Rehabilitation
Goat rehabilitation is highly specialised and often misunderstood. These are not โeasyโ animals.
Many of the goats I take in arrive:
* Physically traumatised underweight, lame, parasite-ridden, injured or chronically unwell
* Emotionally traumatised fearful, shut down, defensive or unsafe to handle
* With unmanaged breeding, intact bucks, and urgent welfare risks
* After long periods of neglect, cruelty, or hoarding situations
Rehabilitation involves far more than feeding them and hoping for the best.
It requires:
* Skilled handling and behaviour assessment
* Extensive veterinary involvement
* Careful health planning and disease prevention
* Time, patience, consistency and trust-building
* Ethical, holistic animal care focused on longterm welfare not quick fixes
Many goats require weeks or months of work before they are healthy, calm, safe to handle and suitable for rehoming.
What Your Donations Pay For
Donations to our Givealittle page directly fund essential, non-optional welfare costs, including:
* Surgical castration of bucks (a major welfare and safety requirement)
* Veterinary care and emergency treatment
* Vaccinations and disease testing
* Parasite control, drenching and ongoing health management
* Feed, hay and grazing for rehabilitating and fostered goats
* Injury treatment, wound care and recovery support
* General husbandry and rehabilitation costs
These are real, ongoing expenses and they donโt stop.
Right now, goats are booked for veterinary procedures and care and funding is critically needed to ensure their treatment can go ahead.
Why This Page Exists
This page and Givealittle page is intentionally long-term.
Goat neglect, abuse and abandonment are growing problems in our communities.
There is no single case, no neat ending and no pause between rescues.
Some goats are:
* Orphaned
* Abandoned
* Surrendered directly to me
* Removed from unsafe situations
* Transferred through or alongside authorities and other organisations
Funds donated support all current and future goats, not just one individual case ensuring continuity of care, stability, and the ability to say yes when the next call comes.
Working Together for Goat Welfare
This work does not happen in isolation. I work alongside a small network of experienced foster carers, knowledgeable animal professionals and an exceptional local veterinary team. I also collaborate with other organisations and authorities where appropriate to ensure goats receive the best possible outcomes.
Despite this, goat rescue remains small-scale, underfunded and largely invisible and much of the burden falls on individuals willing to step in when no one else will.
That is why your support matters so deeply.
Foster Homes Needed
We are always keen to hear from people who can offer foster homes for goats.
Ideal foster carers have:
* Secure fencing
* Adequate shelter
* Space within established paddocks
* Basic experience with livestock or large animals
Full ongoing support, guidance and backup is provided. Foster homes are a crucial part of saving lives.
Why I Do This
I do this work because animals deserve respect, safety and dignity p and because neglect and cruelty should never be met with silence.
Without intervention, many of these goats would:
* Continue to suffer untreated
* Be repeatedly bred in unsafe conditions
* Live in fear, pain or isolation
* Or die slowly and unnecessarily
Every donation no matter the size directly changes that outcome.
If you are able to help, please consider donating via Givealittle or sharing this page.
Your support allows this work to continue and allows goats who have known only neglect and abuse to finally experience care, stability and safety.
Thank you for standing up for them. ๐
