We have dropped our numbers and boy it has simplified our lives. Just about to bale the front paddock and still have plenty. Processed a steer recently ourselves and boy was it a good feeling providing quality meat for the family. He was not a pure bred boy so big but boy is he yummy.

MANGATORO HINTERWALD CATTLE

We learnt about these wonderful cattle after we saw an article about them when they won the Steak of Origin a competition for the best steak in NZ. We got interested in what made this unknown breed such a winner.We contacted the gentleman who owned the cattle and asked if we could come and have a look. Before we visited we did some research and knew we were onto something special. Werner Gut had imported semen from Germany after a trip home to Switzerland and used this on his milking Simmental. We loved the animals and were hooked.

These cattle are, hardy, beefy, easy calving, lots of milk, low flight and such a great choice we have been delighted with our choice.

After a number of years breeding up using imported semen and grade cows we are now in the position of we believe owning the first pure breed Hinterwald in the country.

Werner Gutt has sinced passed away but he would be so proud to see what we have done. We are too.
