Very positive to see this NZ validation of the US evidence of hydrid synergy amongst the Big 3 British beef breeds. They say Profit comes in Colour, thanks to NZSA and the brothers Proffit for this substantial piece of work!

Programme produces early data showing the breed can match leading beef genetics on growth, carcase traits, marbling and yield under commercial conditions.

Prime Shorthorn Heifer sold in today's Coalgate sale. Weight Pays @ 855kg fasted she made $4.86/kg LWT. Thanks to bidr and the Hazlett Livestock teams.

Fantastic to see the rise of the Shorthorn in the competitive US beef market. A new world record price set at $320,000 USD = $530,000 NZD.

Canadian 🇨🇦 sired TK Torlesse is off to a flying start - 4mo today. His dams 10th calf. The weaning weight ratio is going to be interesting for this pair.

We've unearthed some interesting historical documents this Christmas and found K.W. Deighton's original studbook. It turns out he established Te Kohanui in 1938 with the gift of a red heifer - Abbess 52nd - from the Pryce family's Otapatu stud at Kakariki. It appears his calf registration, and possibly publication of the NZBSA stud book, was postponed until 1941 due to WWII.
