On Monday at 4.13am our store was broken into. Two extremely frustrated male offenders, one half the size of the other spent time trying to smash through two of our strengthened glass doors while two others waited outside. A number of F-words were expressed out of frustration and comedy of mishaps. They caused thousands of dollars of damage just for some bottles of spirits. It's really disheartening with the weight of this especially as a small business.
Even with the cold and snow out, we have worked hard to re-open — our priority was safety and security. We are definitely now OPEN.
What has kept us going is our "community". Neighbours who passed information straight to Police, and customers have been incredible — many saying they’re available any time if we ever need a hand. That’s real neighbourhood watch, and it shows how committed Caversham is to keeping our community safe. Together with our CCTV footage handed to Police we are hopeful catching these offenders.
Huge thanks to Dunedin Glass, our neighbouring small business, for securing the premises immediately. Small businesses really do look after one another.
This small independent store has served locals for more than 50 years. We were just about to announce our 25‑year celebration sale to thank everyone for their support over our challenging recent license renewal and over 25 years of business— and despite this setback, that celebration is still coming. We have the support of our suppliers and other small suppliers we continue to help. We will be posting details on fb so it would be great if you follow us & like us.
We noted a number of cars driving by around the time of this event being on a main road. If you have any information, please contact Police via 105, quoting file number 260803/4608.
Caversham is strong, supportive, and community‑minded — and we’re proud to be part of it. This is what will make this upcoming celebration even more special. It's all about "Locals supporting Locals". Thanks to our community, customers and friends. We are truly humbled by all your ongoing support.
Take care and keep warm,
Management and Team at Caversham Liquor
