150 years of great, great, great beer... and it's always been about the people who made it mean something. Cheers for being on this journey with us mates 🍻

The Great Beer Delivery 2007. Because when homesick Kiwis in London said they missed Speight’s, the only logical response was to strap a fully working Alehouse to the deck of a ship and sail it from Dunedin to London over 16 weeks.

Odds of them shouting? Historically low. We still love them though.

150 years ago, James Speight didn’t arrive with a sales deck. He arrived by horse and cart.

If the pub owner wasn’t keen on buying Speight’s, James would simply head back outside and start pouring free beer for the customers instead. Funny how quickly minds changed once the pub started emptying out.

On this day, 150 years ago, three mates set out to brew a great, great, great beer.

James Speight, Charles Greenslade and William Dawson were working together as salesman, maltster and brewer at Well Park Brewery in Dunedin. Then on May 1st, 1876, they took everything they knew, leased the brewery stables, and got to work building Speight’s from the ground up. 150 years later, we’re still on that same site today.
