Looking for a sustainable energy source that is good for both mind and body? Try one of these 100% organic MCT oils produced by Melrose. As one of Australia’s leading and most trusted health brands, Melrose’s philosophy has always been to create the most effective products that harness the power of nature.
Their Melrose MCT Oils are made from 100% sustainably farmed, organic coconuts fractionated in a four-part process to extract all the nutrients. Some growly stomach sounds prompted us to ask Registered Naturopath Francisca Griffin about what is normal in this area.

BORBORYGMI
What a word! It even sounds like it means as it’s the medical term for stomach growling, gurgling, or rumbling sounds.
Borborygmi is caused by gas, fluids, and food moving through your stomach and intestines during digestion, a process known as peristalsis This week we’re taking a look at prebiotic foods. Prebiotic foods contain non-digestible fibres that feed the beneficial bacteria of your microbiome, and we need 3-5 gm daily. It’s a great idea to have a range of foods containing prebiotic fibres, Inulin, Fructo-oligosaccharides, Pectin, resistant starch, Lignans, Beta Glucans, Glucomannan are what you are looking for, as well as some polyphenols & flavonoids. Chicory is very high in Inulin, you may already be drinking this as a coffee substitute.
Slightly green bananas contain resistant starch (so called because it resists digestion). You’ll find Inulin and fructo-oligosaccharides in onions & garlic.
Burdock root, dandelion greens, asparagus & leeks contain inulin.
Apples contain pectin - you must eat the skin, and get as close as you can to the core. Flaxseed lignans, Barley & Oats have beta-glucan, Cacao for polyphenols & flavonoids. You can see it’s super easy to incorporate these into your daily diet!

Looking for a gut healing recipe? We asked Dunedin Naturopath Sarah Campbell-MacKenzie for some tips on how to support your gut health from your very own kitchen!
“Did you know that simply putting an organic chicken frame with a few veges/herbs and a little ACV (apple cider vinegar) into the slow cooker topped with water will create a beautiful nourishing BROTH in 24 hours? This can then be used as a base for all sorts of meals.
Our grandmothers’ generation were onto something, and not just how to stretch out every dollar.
BROTH contains these key amino acids:
GLUTAMINE is vital for gut health as it supports the small intestinal villi (hairs) that are required for nutritional absorption, it has been used to treat Crohn’s, colitis, and irritable bowel. It also supports liver health.
GLYCINE for blood health, digestion of fats, and liver support, and inflammation.
PROLINE is a fundamental building block for cartilage and for collagen.
ALANINE supports liver function and cell respiration and can improve physical function.
We have chicken frames instore or if you need a quicker option frozen and powdered readymade broths are also available.
