Who heard the steam train whistle? 🚂 On Thursday at 4:00pm sharp, Emerson’s blows the unmistakable sound of our steam train whistle signalling the arrival of our latest release.

The team also floats around with tasters of the new b**r accompanied by a bite sized food pairing from our menu between 4:00pm - 6:00pm.

Our founder Richard Emerson has always had a huge passion trains. So much so, that he installed a real train whistle on the back of the brewery. 🚂 🍻

Brendan likes his b**rs big, bold and unapologetic. A fan of brewing Belgian ales and kettle sours, his dream collaboration would be with Belgium’s Duvel Moortgat on a hopped-up golden ale. One of his proudest Emerson’s moments goes back to the JP Saison around 2012, which picked up both gold and a trophy at the New Zealand B**r Awards. If he could revive one b**r from the Eemrson’s archives, Rapture Black IPA would be making a comeback.

With 20 years of brewing at Emerson’s under his belt, Jim knows a thing or two about making good b**r. A lover of brewing and drinking well-balanced la**rs and classic IPAs, his dream collaboration would be with Thornbridge in the UK, whose Jaipur IPA helped inspire his Battle of the Brewers b**r, Lazarus. The Emerson’s b**r he’s most proud to have worked on is Phantom Lord, back when they first made it at Wickliffe Street. And if brewing hadn’t worked out? You might have found him making a living as a professional ceramic artist instead.

🍺 Description: Old school IPA with a proper bitter bite and plenty of resinous, piney hop character. Bold, crisp and unapologetically hoppy — no overripe fruit here, kids!

Originally from Canada, Jasmine is one of the newest additions to the Emerson’s brewing team, arriving in Dunedin earlier this year and joining the brewery in April. When she’s not brewing, she’s planning several alternative careers — electrician in Antarctica, hobby and flower farmer in Canada, grizzly bear researcher in Alaska, or professional cheese taster. For now, though, she’s here brewing b**r and taking on her first Battle of the Brewers.

🍺 B**r Name: Gezellig – Kuyt
🍺 B**r Style: Bready and floral with low background citrus notes, pairs well with riding your bike to the beach and eating cumin gouda.

Born in Dunedin and raised in Mount Maunganui, Gary has been part of the Emerson’s brewing team for nine years. A fan of keeping things simple, he has a particular soft spot for American Pale Ales and would happily team up with an American craft brewery to brew an IPA. The Emerson’s b**r he’s most proud to have worked on is Pride of the Plains, but if one b**r could make a comeback, he’d bring back Darkest Descent — simply because he loved it.

🍺 B**r Name: Hamster in a Wheel – American Amber Ale
🍺 B**r Style: Deep amber in colour with a bright grapefruit/sweet mandarin aroma, with nice crisp citrus flavours.
