👋 FAREWELL LIAM 👋

The end of the season means it’s time to say goodbye to another familiar face around the Group. Liam Alley wraps up six years with us, and he’s built a strong track record in that time.

He started as 2IC at Willsden Farm, stepped into the Farm Manager role at Camden Farm after a year, then returned to Willsden as Farm Manager for the past two seasons. Each move reflected the confidence placed in him and the results he delivered.

There have been plenty of great outcomes, with the standout being Willsden reaching a season production total of 500,000kgMS in 2024-25 under Liam’s watch - the only time that milestone has been achieved in the farm’s 25-year history.

Liam has been a steady presence across the farms he’s led. He’s well regarded by his teams, keeps things calm when it counts, and is always keen for a yarn. He’s built strong teams and contributed positively to our culture along the way.

Liam, thanks for the work you’ve put in and the time you’ve spent with us. You’ve played an important role over the last six years and we’ve appreciated having you in the Group. All the best for what’s ahead!

🥛 A DAY AT FONTERRA DARFIELD 🥛

We were fortunate enough to visit Fonterra’s Darfield site recently. It’s a place where milk doesn’t just get processed - it gets transformed, elevated, and shipped off to feed the world.

Darfield processes up to 7.5 million litres of milk a day during peak season. That’s enough to fill every bath in Christchurch and still have leftovers for a latte. The plant boasts the world’s largest whole milk powder dryer, which churns out 33 tonnes of powder per hour.

But the real star of the show? Cream cheese. Darfield produces 100 tonnes of it daily, destined for the sweet tooths of China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. Think mooncakes, tea macchiatos, and strawberry cakes with a dollop of Kiwi dairy magic. The cream cheese is poured, while still hot, into 20-kilogram cardboard cartons lined with plastic bags. The cream cheese line is so automated it’s run by just five people and a fleet of forklifts which whizz around the factory floor tooting just as if a human was at the helm.

Other facts we learned:
🔸 The site includes a 51,000m² distribution centre - about seven rugby fields worth of dairy logistics.
🔸 It exports 10,000 containers a year via a direct rail link to Lyttelton Port.
🔸 It’s home to a biodigester that turns wastewater solids into biogas. Yes, even the leftovers are productive.

We left the Darfield site with wide eyes, fuller brains, and a newfound reverence for the humble milk molecule. A massive thank you to the Fonterra Darfield team for their generosity, warmth, and willingness to let us peek into their world.

🚜 NEW CONVERSION UNDERWAY 🚜

Something’s brewing in Te Pirita, and no, it’s not just the coffee we’re mainlining to keep up with the pace. We’re converting grazing land into a new dairy farm. Moo-ving on up, you could say.

Introducing The Crossing Dairy Limited – a fresh new joint venture between the Camden Group and the Cox family. It’s a rural dream team with boots on the ground and big plans in the pipeline.

The transformation is already underway. First up: tree removal and earthworks - a tidy-up to set the stage. Then comes the dairy shed, staff housing, irrigation, fencing – the whole shebang.
By the start of the 2026-27 season, we’ll be turning pasture into milk faster than you can say "flat white".

We’re beyond excited to sink our teeth into this project – metaphorically, of course. (We don’t bite. Except maybe into a good cheese toastie.)
