But people are still about and we've got another 2.5 hours to go here in Palmy.

Here's Rhuby Red Shoes posing with her rhubarb, her red currants, her raspberries and her strawberries... none of which are ready for 2026 vintage

But 2025 is ready for drinking now! I was going to wait until November but today has convinced me that now is the time ☀️

You can try and buy tomorrow at Lions Market in The Square or at Foxton Spring Fling on Sunday 🙌🏼

Maybe I'm not in their target market.. but I'm definitely at their market!!

Apparently it's a massive market with heaps of great stalls (of course, Catalyst is going to be there 😜) entertainment and activities. All on at The Square, central Palmerston North, 9am - 4pm. Come say hi 👋

The next day, Sunday the 25th I'll be over in Foxton for the Spring Fling 🌟

Fortress 1, fortress 2, and my free ranging chicken crew! (Well, two of 13)

Our chickens are pretty well behaved around the garden considering they have full access passes. But they do unfortunately like to snack on my low hanging (green/unripe!!!) currants.

And as the red and white currants are fruiting the netted fortresses have had to come up.

Blackcurrants are still flowering, but when they fruit up fortress 3 + 4 will go up 😅

I blimmin well forgot to bring a whole box with me today 🤐 so no onion w**e, apple w**e vinegar, Fruit Cru pet nat and only one vin de noix cafe. Gutted!

Still got everything else!!

If you'd read my newsletter that came out yesterday, you would know that I've been applying for special licences left right and centre to do events around the motu.

One of those events was the Petone Rotary Fair in February next year. This morning I got told that my licence fee would be $607 🤯 I was expecting $207...

You see, I've been, unbeknownst to me, really lucky;
Alll the councils that I have applied to have had the same fee structure as each other (highlighted in red) so I assumed ALL councils were the same. Until today.

So I've spent all morning going through a large amount of council webpages and compiled this table. And now know that I will never do an event in Porirua!

I have unfortunately also pulled out of Petone, I just can't justify that cost.. it's cheaper for me to go to Marlborough Garden Fete and that's including the ferry crossing!

Save this post if you're a fellow alcohol seller wanting to do events around NZ; I've done the mahi for you so you don't get a surprise like I did!
