The sun didn't arrive but the interest did.
We were blown away with the result of incalf hind sale 2 weeks ago. It's amazing to have such an endorsement for the venison industry and our genetics. A huge thank you to all the purchasers and underbidders. The next challenge is making sure we have enough of the right animals to keep the industry growing.

A big credit and thanks to our team for presenting the animals so well especially given the challenging wet conditions.
Thanks also to Duncan Venison and my better half for the lunch to keep everyone enthusiastic in spite of the weather.

The excitement of the first Lot breaking $1000 must've got the better of me because apparently I wasn't recording 🤦🤦

We’re all set for tomorrow! Hinds are looking great! The team has even managed to clean most of the mud out of the shed!

Beautiful day for sorting rising 3 year old hinds at Stanton pre sale. After they weaned their first fawn at the end of February they were trucked to the hill block for mating. We finally saw them up close 2 weeks ago when the snow cleared to get them down for preg scanning. They’re all looking great, weighed and sorted today ready for Tuesday!

A big 5 days weaning 2000 odd weaners at Melior. Started 21st finished the 27th. Every single stud fawn weighed individually as a start of each animals individual performance data.

Now we get to think about the next generation at the same time. Friday 28th was the day to start getting hinds sorted for mating mobs and breeding programs!! Deadline this Friday to have stags out with all natural mating mobs so as not to bias the conception date data.

Great to have such an awesome team working together! (Maybe the photographer should take more people photos 😂🤦‍♂️)

Onto the next generation in the last couple of weeks! DNA testing, tagging and first jabs for all the youngsters. We got off the a great start with 1000 done in the first week but cloud and fog holding up the proceedings on the next 1000 to come off the hill. Only a week off weaning the first mob 🤦‍♂️

It’s pleasurable to have feed, good fawns and hinds again after the challenges of last season. A nice reminder why we farm!

What an incredible change in a few weeks! It’s great that the weather has positively affected most of the country too. It’s amazing what a small break and some mental relief can do for the mindset! We can definitely see it in our team and the people we deal with.
