Hi to all just a message to let you all no that we are very sorry for the lack of communication in responding to emails and enquirys as the demand for what we have done for so long is so overwhelming .
Heslips Hatcheries has been dealing with lots over the last few years within the industry and our suppliers of the hybrid egg layers and meat birds have been stopped, due to the corporate company's etempting to take over the markets and implomenting there way of raising these Birds, to try meet the new regulations, implemented by law, of the ebolishment of caged birds, how these companies have set up there operations to try met the demand for the free range market in New Zealand and fulfill their supermarket contracts,
is deceitful crawl and wrong to the bird and consumer,
What they have done is made a big cage with up to 20,000 chickens in these cages, these birds have to be de-beaked as it is too much of a stressful environment for a bird to be in an area with so many others ,these birds will cannibalize each other if not.
They have to add pigments into there feed to get the yellow coloring that a free range egg has when it is naturally raised on pasture,
these birds can come outside but rarely do ,
as they like to be near there food and water , when they do come out they can't free range or pick grass and bugs as they have no becks.
At Heslips Hatcheries we have always believed that, to call a bird free range it should have the ability to be able to be raised on pasture and get the most out of what nature provides we have always raised our birds to be like this.
It has been tricky over the years trying to change something that has been designed for a commercial market, and that is fully reliant on introduced feed, and made to be produced in faster times and more numbers of eggs.
We have successfully done so with the hybrid egg layers ,but when it comes to meat birds the hybrids that these company's have created are not designed for pasture free-ranging or the new laws.
These birds are heavily reliant on introduced feed designed for them, witch also these company's have full control over as well ,and only supplie there own farms with the best feed for optimal results, and supplie a second grade feed to the public.
We have been working on a few things over the years to try and prepare for these changes but with the challenges of these larger company's attempts to defam us internally and there skullduggery tackteks ,and all the power and controll money comes with trying to make shore we stop trading has overcome our ability to keep control .
We have got a new egg layer and meat bird more acceptable for pasture free-ranging and not totally reliant on introduced feed, a slower growing meat bird a longer lasting laying hen,we are still some time away until we can build up the parent stock to meet the demand for the free range market and hope to be able to offer these birds very soon.
As for now we are taking orders for our selected pure breed hens at day old and at 16 weeks old, we are also offering purebred day old meat birds .
These birds are all made by nature and can be raised with what nature provides and with less introduced feed, they will lay 3 times longer than a hybrid would ,they are more cost affective when it comes to feed and not reliant on a certain brand of feed, much more adatable to pasture free-ranging methods
For all info and ordering details, please visit our new website www.purepasture.co.nz
We are also working closely with MPI to try set up the standards when it comes down to what a (pasture free-ranging) bird should be ,
and with all of your support ,there is still a chance for the small farmer and backyard chicken inthoseist to carry on,
as it should be our rite to no what we are consuming ,and to be able to become sustainable in any way of everyday life ,for all family's and the future of the next generations to come .
