Well it's been quite a journey. On 14th February 2025 I had a heart attack and cardiac arrest resulting 13 minutes with no pulse.

That was 531 days ago. In those days of recovery I had time to learn and think. My perspective changed. When you have a brush with the end of your days it can inspire you want to make something that will last. An essence. Something worthwhile.

I found rum. Distilling was so enticing. Refining something down to a pure form drew me in.

During those days my steadfast wife Anna was by my side. Shooting down dumb ideas and encouraging the good ones.

Here we are 531 days later. Hold Fast Rum has won two silver medals in the New Zealand Spirit Awards 2026. Blind tasted by experts, both our products were awaded medals.

Tonight we celebrated with rum and some fish and chips with friends.

Thanks to those who supported us up to this point. Batch number one is nearly gone. Batch number two is about to be released.
