Escape to High Country this Labour Weekend

For two days, Coal Pit will take up residence at The Lindis, the modern luxury lodge set among the rolling hills of the Ahuriri Valley.

Great w**e begins with what we choose to protect.

This September, we will join organic producers throughout Aotearoa in celebrating Organic W**e Week - a reflection of the care, patience, and responsibility behind every certified-organic bottle.

For us, organic farming isn't a moment on the calendar. It is a commitment carried through every season at Coal Pit.

Pinot Noir sits at the heart of Coal Pit.

Today, for Pinot Noir Day, we are celebrating our latest releases and their recent scores from Cameron Douglas MS:

2023 Tiwha Pinot Noir - 96 points
2024 Bendigo Pinot Noir - 95 points
2024 Bannockburn Pinot Noir - 95 points

Together with our recent visit to The Real Review, it has been a fitting moment to share these w**es, the places they come from, and our continued dedication to Central Otago Pinot Noir.

A perfect celebration of the variety we know and love best.

A new chapter at Coal Pit.

We are incredibly proud to announce that Anika Willner has been appointed General Manager of Coal Pit, alongside her role as W**emaker.

Since joining us in 2018, Anika has helped shape every part of the estate, from the evolution of our w**es and vineyard to our deepening commitment to organic farming and the long-term direction of Coal Pit.

Anika’s curiosity, thoughtful leadership and deep respect for the land have become an integral part of Coal Pit. We could not be prouder to have her leading the estate forward.

Please join us in congratulating Anika on this very well-deserved appointment.

Central Otago’s Finest.

The Tiwha Pinot Noir 2023 has been selected by w**e writer Joelle Thomson as one of ten top drops from Central Otago in a recent NZ Herald feature.

With two years of bottle age, Joelle notes the w**e’s depth, power and dark-fruited character, describing it as “full-bodied, dry and drinking beautifully” with the ability to age.

We are proud to see The Tiwha, grown organically on our Gibbston estate, included in a feature celebrating the people, places and Pinot Noir that have carried Central Otago onto the world stage.

96 points for our 2023 Tiwha Pinot Noir.

In his latest W**e Orbit review, Sam Kim notes flavours of dark cherry, wild strawberry, bay leaf, cured meat and toasted almond, with a prolonged, finely dry finish.

“Wonderfully composed with finesse and poise.”
