Excellent commercial beef returns, fuelled by international demand for protein and corresponding calf prices earlier this autumn, have culminated in strong Angus NZ bull sale results across the country.

In a season that peaked with the sale of a record-breaking $220,000 Angus NZ bull, gross takings from Angus NZ sales across the country amounted to $27,483,843 – a 14.5% increase on the 2025 total for Angus NZ bulls sold with an incredible result for the stud beef industry.

All regions bettered last year’s sale results with many breeders achieving PB’s on clearance rates and averages. Thirty one sales across the country recorded a 100% clearance rate, while the national average rose to $12,726, compared with a 2025 average of $11,346.

Although the highs were very high in 2026, stud stock auctioneer Neville Clark said that with 2189 Angus NZ bulls offered nationwide, there really is an Angus NZ bull available for everyone, at every budget.

“Some farmers, buoyed by excellent calf prices, have taken the opportunity to invest in a slightly more expensive, higher-quality bull this year,” Clark said. “This means there is always a suitable sire available at a price point for anyone.”

We are completely lost for words. Wow... what a Sale!

To see Lot 3 sell for $220,000, preceded by Lot 2 at $165,000, was beyond our wildest dreams. We simply can't express enough our gratitude for the unbelievable support shown for our breeding programme on Monday afternoon.

While the prices made the headlines, what meant even more to us was seeing so many loyal clients, fellow breeders and new supporters place their confidence in Kaharau.

We are completely over the moon, incredibly proud and so excited.

Thank you just doesn't seem adequate—to the stud breeders, our loyal repeat commercial buyers, the underbidders, Neville, Cody, Emma, Jamie and all the agents, the incredible team we have here at Kaharau led by Nick, everyone who helps us throughout the year, our service providers, and our family and friends.

Modern Kaharau has been built on an outstanding foundation of nearly 70 years of breeding. We feel incredibly fortunate to be the current guardians of this Stud.

I would have loved for my dear father, Colin, to have seen the results of the foundation he created. I know he would have been immensely proud.

Thank you,
Penny and Pete.
