Hi Humming Valley Honey supporters. Unfortunately it isn’t feasible to sell honey in the shop, as I really want to sell our honey at a price that is feasible for me, but also affordable for you, the client. So back to only available through free delivery around Gore area or when you catch me at markets.

Keep supporting local produce where you can. I think many that have had or own a local retail shop in Gore are aware of the ongoing overhead costs make it very tricky to be viable.

Being a beekeeper and maintaining healthy hives is really hard with this pesky mite. Using varied treatments throughout the year, from pre spring build up, organic treatments throughout the honey flow, through to autumn treatments and again checking before wintering down.
The bees are amazing insects. I hope it’s not long until there is something more easily to manage the varroa mite.
When the mite infestation is in the hive, as well as seeing them in bees, you may also see bees with deformed wings and other effects from them.

Majority of the losses were put down to the varroa mite — an external parasite that can weaken or even destroy entire colonies.
