The Monteith’s Wild Food Challenge Finalists for 2026 are here! 🏆
After weeks of wild flavours, creative pairings and thousands of votes, five standout dishes have earned their place in the final. On 18 June, they'll go head-to-head for the title of Monteith’s Wild Food Challenge Champion 2026.
The finalists are:
🦌 Forest to The Sea Wild Tasting Board - The Smoking Barrel
A wild culinary journey featuring 10-hour BBQ smoked wild venison short rib, local kiwifruit, feijoa & horopito glaze, wild foraged mushrooms, wild pork, yellowfoot pāua, whipped kina & kawakawa butter and kina mayo. Matched with Monteith's Driftin’ IPA.
🍔 G.O.A.T. Burger - The Keg Room
Spiced wild goat with whipped feta, mango chutney & pakoras, matched with Monteith's West Coastin' Hazy IPA.
🍔 Cedric's Wild Food Sliders - Shed 16
Canterbury red stag venison with smoked horopito pork fat, blueberry & mānuka relish, kawakawa aioli, watercress and kūmara crisps, matched with Monteith's Original Ale.
🐐 Tahr Mate The Lookout Bar and Kitchen
Tahr three ways with spring roll, tataki & pressed shoulder, matched with Monteith's Original Ale.
🍽️ Foveaux Strait Blackfoot Pāua Arancini Aparima Restaurant & Bar
Golden-crisp risotto spheres featuring wild-caught blackfoot pāua from the pristine waters of the Foveaux Strait, served with black garlic aioli and tomato kasundi. Matched with Monteith's Alcoholic Ginger Beer.
