Congratulations Richard Hill, whose dedication and legacy was recognised with the NZAPI Industry Contribution Award.

“Throughout his career, and more recently in his time with Mr Apple, he has been instrumental in fostering and developing the careers of many young and aspiring growers. Many of today’s orchard managers have him to thank for assisting in building their knowledge and capability. A legacy that will continue for many years to come"

It’s all go at the New Zealand Apples and Pears annual conference in Nelson today!

Hon. Nicola Grigg MP, Associate Minister of Agriculture (Horticulture) opened the event this morning discussing the value of the sector and it’s very real potential to realise the Government’s goal of doubling exports, before Bioeconomy Science Institute Transitional CEO Mark Piper highlighted to opportunities of the merging CRIs.

And, at the welcome function last night, Cameron Bagrie discussed the need for Kiwis to rediscover their DNA for risk and challenged the sector to triple, not just double exports.

With more exhibitors than ever filling the Trafalgar Centre Exhibition Hall and six specialist break out sessions covering a wide range of topics, it will be a big day ahead!

From face to face time with Ministers and discussions with media and the general public, to for Primary Industries's emphatic SOPI launch.

It was great to spend time with Ministers Todd McClay MP lay & Nicola Grigg MP, the team at Horticulture NZ, The Country's Jamie Mackay and Rowena Duncum, and enjoy the inaugural New Zealand Rural Support Trust dinner.
